On Saturday, January 25, 2020, at 2: 00 p.m. CEMOTAP will be hosting a forum called: “The Meeting” Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King and The Honorable Elijah Muhammad.”

This forum will discuss the first meeting that took place between Dr. King and the Nation of Islam leader on February 24, 1966, in Chicago, at Mr. Muhammad’s home.

The meeting took place at a time when many contend Dr. King was reevaluating some of his former stances like his position on integration. It has been noted that, in the last days of his life, Dr. King confided in his friend Harry Belafonte: “You know, we fought long and hard for integration…But I tell you, Harry, I’ve come on a realization that really deeply troubles me. I’ve come to the realization that I think we may be integrating into a burning house.”

Dr. King also stated, in the Autobiography of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., that “there are points at which I see the necessity for temporary separation as a temporary way-station to a truly integrated society.”

Speakers for this upcoming forum will be: Minister A. Hafeez Muhammad, Dr. Rosalind Jeffries, Sister Fredrica Bey and Professor James Blake. The meeting will take place at CEMOTAP CENTER located at 135-05 Rockaway Boulevard South Ozone Park, Queens, NY 11420. Admission is free but RSVP because seating is limited.
