Barbara’s Golden Voice

Where She’s From:
Beautiful Barbara C. De Laleu, an Aquarius, was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised on Long Island. “The most important thing I have learned from my parents are respect for self and making bigger and smarter decisions,� she tells The Black Star News.

Barbara, 23, attended St. John’s University’s Queens Campus majoring in Communication Arts with a concentration in Radio and Television and a minor in Linguistics. “I am still and will always be advancing in my career.  I never stop learning,� she adds. “I am not looking to be a superstar, just to be heard and to hear the stories of others in their personal movements.� She plans on completing her Master of Science and eventually a doctorate in Speech.

“I owe all of my talent, strength, and support to my loving parents Jean and Gina Delaleu, mentors DJ Chuck Dogg of Power 105.1FM NY, Luis Paco Lopez of the former Mix 102.7 FM NY, and Donna Donna of 102.3 WBAB-FM NY as well as many beloved friends who believed in my dream of radio broadcasting as much as she did,� she says.


Where She’s At:
 Barbara’s ambition is to become a Speech Language Pathologists and work with underprivileged African-American and Latino youth suffering from Speech impediments and problems with public speaking to improve their confidence level and prepare them for the real life.

“Being rejected when sending out demos of my voice to become an on-air personality was a challenge because I constantly want to get better and I work hard to live by the rules, which limited me to what others thought I should do,� she says. “When I finally realized that there are no limits, that I can do anything, anywhere—that is why I made it to where I am today. I conquered  my challenges through just realizing that I can impact a larger audience other than just my community. I quickly learned that there is more to life than what is given to you.�


Where She’s Heading:
Barbara has already scored several accomplishments. She been considered for an on-air position with 102.3 WBAB Rock Station on Long Island because of her talent and diverse communication skills. She’s also been featured on a St. John’s University commercial campaign promoting the school’s new Advertising Communications Curriculum. Additionally, Barbara’s been featured on Black Entertainment Television in a powerful promo for Black History month intended to positively impact and influence youth who are fans of the station.

Her voice was heard over local radio on WHCR 90.3FM NY-The Voice of Harlem every Wednesday evening from 4-6pm with a show called Equilibrium where she conducted interviews. She also was entertainment reporter for a brand new hip hop internet radio station called JHNRADIO.com where she reported on the latest in headlines, hip hop news, and current community events in the Tri-State area. While she was an intern at BET Radio Networks, she interviewed several high profile celebrities like Ginuwine, Wendy Williams, 50 Cent, Common, Judge Hatchett, Kevin Liles, En Vogue, and Ray J–just to name a few.

In addition, De Laleus’s voice has been on the mixtape: Street Grind Volume II featuring DJ Rob Lo of Violator and her mentor DJ Chuck Dogg of Power 105.1FM NY. Her voice can also be heard on the MasterMix25, the 25th Anniversary mixtape CD for DJ Tommie Allen of 98.7 KISS FM NY and excerpts of DJ Chuck Dogg of Power 105.1FM NYs weekend afternoon show from 2P-6P.

She’s now holds a midday slot on PartyRadioUSA.net where she provides listeners with the daily dish everyday on entertainment, politics, business, and community news with her show entitled:  Stranger on the Streets Daily Dish Reports from 10a-2pm.

How does Barbara prepare to step out? “I like New York & Company; Estee Lauder’s Pleasures & Beauty; Fashion Fair and Mac Makeup Lines, and I love wearing high-heeled boots,� she says.
