Brooklyn born Kim Coles continues to strike a cord with audiences and has been a fan favorite for decades.
Not an easy accomplishment in Hollywood, but Kim’s talent and takes on love, aging and natural hair has stood the test of time. She is best recognized for her five-season run as the lovable “Synclaire” on FOX’s groundbreaking comedy series Living Single.
She’s also appeared in numerous television shows including Frasier, Six Feet Under, In Living Color, and One on One.
Yes, Kim is on a roll. Her new book, Open Your G.I.F.T.S. (Gratitude, Intention, Forgiveness, Triumps, Self-Love) will be released in May 2017. “It’s amazing collaboration with 22 women who share their life lessons on gratitude, intention, forgiveness, triumph and self-love,” says Kim.
Kim even gives of herself on a more personal level, guiding and empowering women through online coaching sessions with her newlywed husband and former SWAT Officer, Reggie McKiver.
She is gearing up to headline the Curlpalooza™ Mad Funny Comedy Show in Rahway, NJ on Saturday July 15, 2017. This block party is full of entertainment and showcases natural hair. Kim was one of the first women to wear her hair naturally curly in Hollywood, and has connected with women around the world through her appearances, videos and social networking platforms.
The event’s co-producer Gilda Rogers says that Kim adds the perfect touch to the day “The name, Curlpalooza™: A Block Party, elicits an exciting day of fun for everyone. It combines a meaningful purpose with natural hair and that makes it even more engaging for attendees and Kim is all about being funny and living life with a meaningful purpose.”
“Female comedians are often overlooked, just look at the late night line-up. We are bringing these powerhouses to the stage,” says the show’s co-producer Candace Kelley. “This is the first year for the show, but each year, Curlpalooza™ will feature female comedians who have risen or who are on the rise.” Comedian Marina Franklin (Trainwreck, Chapelle’s Show, The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore) is also on the ticket.
Designing sensation Kyemah McEntyre will also be at Curlpalooza™ to launch her summer line at the event. McEntyre’s African-inspired prom dress went viral kicking off her young career. As a result of her posting the dress, the 19 year old has designed pieces for Tyra Banks and Naturi Naughton (Power) and other celebrities have lined up to put in their orders. When she takes the stage at Curlpalooza™, she says the audience will see her summer line focus natural fabrics and dyes that she is designing for the world. “Whether someone sees it Senegal or Chile I am making sure to take up different perspectives. The creations are also a mixture of me staying true to myself.” Kyemah’s artwork will also be on display at the event.
Curlpalooza™ takes place at the Union County Performing Arts Center- Hamilton Stage, on Saturday July 15, 2017. The day includes natural hair workshops, a comedy show, Greek steppers, an Artisan’s Marketplace, zumba, a live DJ, natural hair books, spoken word artists and more.
