California's Beautiful Dafina
“I am very proud of being able to help other models when they ask for advice or tips, she says.
[Our Beauty Of The Day]
Where She’s From: Dafina Fuqua is from Menlo Park, California. She lived in East Palo Alto until she was five. “I love my parent's for introducing my sisters and I to so many different things,” Dafina tells The Black Star News.
“I'm not saying anything is wrong with having the latest clothes and shoes of that time, but my parents used their money to take us to theatre, travel and introduce us to different cultural events. I am so appreciative of that and love them for it.”
Dafina went to Menlo-Atherton High School in Atherton, California. “I started modeling during the latter part of my senior year in 2000. I was signed to Look Model Agency in San Francisco, California,” she continues. “I've been doing more as a free lance model, but I would like to be signed again. I feel that being with an agency, gives you more security.”
Where She’s At: “I see myself getting re-signed and back to traveling the world in the name of fashion,” Dafina added. “I'd love to be working to the point where when my friends and family call me, I'm answering while getting on plane to go somewhere for a show or a shoot.”
“One of my challenges is that I am six feet. Most models are 5'9 to 5'11,” she says, when asked about how she deals with obstacles. “That extra inch sometimes hinders depending what area I'm in. Another challenge I have, is my hips. Yes, I have them. The industry wants you to have really small ones, but I have what I have.”
“I am very proud of being able to help other models when they ask for advice or tips,” she says. “I've noticed that it's hard to find cool models that are friendly and welcome questions. I know about a handful. If you have questions and I can answer them, don't hesitate to ask.”
“Beauty is temporary, but knowledge and know-how lasts far longer. I mean think about it, would you rather be beautiful forever and not know anything?”
