Our Model Of The Day
Where She’s From: Chantal Barton, a Scorpio, was born in Long Beach, California and lived on a Naval base for the first five years of her life. “My family relocated to San Antonio, Texas in 1993 when my dad retired,” she tells The Black Star News. “I have two brothers and three sisters in my family; one of my sisters is my fraternal twin. The most important thing that I have learned from my family is that no one can live your life but you, and if you want something you have to work to get it.”
The young model and aspiring actress graduated from high school in 2005, and moved to Houston with her twin to attend the University of Houston together. “I started modeling and working as an extra shortly after the move,” she adds. “It has been about a year and a half now. When I first started I wanted to do everything because it was so fun; but now I have slowed down a little bit to focus on getting my bachelors of science degree in Psychology.”
Where She’s At: “My plan is to get into print work, and with my portfolio I have gotten a lot of positive feedback so far. In the long run, I hope to work in business or entertainment law,” says the model-scholar. “It is very important to get your education, because beauty can fade, but your knowledge can last a lifetime.”
Some of Chantal’s accomplishments include being an extra on the Fox Television show, Judge Alex; make-up promotions for teenfashion.about.com; Skeeter's Mesquite Grill commercial, and a few local music videos.
So how does this young beauty get ready to step outside?
“My favorite store is probably DSW because I love shoes,” Chantal says. “I'm not too hooked on brands, but I do wear Ecko and Chanel. I love to wear the Japanese Cherry Blossom body lotion by Bath & Body Works, and use Mary Kay products on a daily basis. They have a micro-dermabrasion face cleanser that is excellent. I also use Motions hair care products-gotta keep it silky.”
Chantal’s Words Of Wisdom: “Do not worry about the past, but do what you can today to prepare for your future.”
Chantal’s Secrets Of Success: “My Secret To Success is not really a secret--Just trust in God.”
Chantal’s Favorite Three Movies: “Dead Presidents, Poetic Justice, and Crooklyn.”
Chantal’s Favorite Three Books: “The Holy Bible; A Room in the Attic; and, most African-American fiction writers.”
Three Leaders That Have Inspired Chantal: “Maya Angelou; Martin Luther King Jr.; and, Susan Taylor, Essence magazine’s Editorial Director.”
The First Three Things Chantal Would Do As President: “I would change policies to help decrease poverty, global warming, and crime. I would also make sure that I did not waste taxpayers’ money.”
Some Of Chantal’s Favorite Cars: “Lincoln MKX, Land Rover, and BMW.”
Chantal’s Five Favorite Entertainers: “Michael Jackson-I'll Be There; Musiq Soulchild-Love; Stevie Wonder-These Three Words; Luther Vandross-The Closer I Get To You; Teedra Moses-Wussup.”
Chantal’s Five Favorite Websites: “Myspace.com/Chantal87; Facebook.com; Yahoo.com; Youtube.com; and, aol.com.”
A Short Chantal Story: “Music is in my blood. My grandfather Melvin "The Mack" Barton owned one of the first Black-owned record stores on the Eastside of San Antonio in the 1970's-late 80's and his customized cars were featured in local parades, newspapers, and Jet Magazine back in the day. I have an uncle who plays guitar and keyboard and an aunt that sang for President George W. Bush. When I was little, my father would make us line up in the living room and sing songs by the Mary Jane Girls and the Jackson 5 because there were so many of us. We even had our own choreography. Now, many of my siblings compose their own music and also dabble in acting.”
