Eve, Pride Of Cali

Eve says: "Everyone is making money off of being sexy, beautiful and inviting. So sometimes it is difficult to find people who are not trying to begin a ‘relationship.’"

Our Model Of The Day

Where She’s From:
Eve Adams, a lovely Gemini, was born in Santa Clara, CA., to wonderful parents, Angie and Greg Adams; she grew up with a younger brother, Greg II, 2 1/2 years her junior.

“I am a military brat so I have lived all over California, Washington State and Hawaii, she tells The Black Star News. “So I have learned how to interact with people of all different nationalities. And I love to travel. I made a big move to New York on my own at 18 and went to school there.  I was taught to accept all people; to be  kind because beauty will only get you so far.

Where She’s At:
Eve is currently enrolled at Cal State East Bay, having also attended the renowned John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York. “I was an overactive child that from the time of my birth loved being around people, so my mother got me involved with children’s fashion shows for major department stores when I was five years old then sent me to a finishing school in Hawaii, she recalls. “That’s how I began my career at seven years old.

“My career is really in the full throttle stage, she continues. “I am pushing myself very hard and I am getting more and more gigs. Thanks to myspace, model sites like modelmayhem and modelplace, I am gaining national exposure. So I am definitely on track to make it; just staying cutting edge and positive.

“This industry is tricky all I can say is I would love to be modeling for major clothing lines, hitting the catwalk during New York City’s fashion week and on the cover of Essence magazine and of course acting, Eve says, of her aspirations. “I love being in front of the camera and pushing myself and changing my look.

Where She’s Heading:
“The challenges are the same as any industry—especially if you are good at what you do, Eve cautions. “Finding legitimate people that are about business. This is a highly sexual industry. Everyone is making money off of being sexy, beautiful and inviting. So sometimes it is difficult to find people who are not trying to begin a ‘relationship.’  I have a wonderful manager now who is a mother and treats me like one of her own. So I send almost everything through her; especially if I am ‘unsure’ about the project or person. Another challenge is getting people to take a chance on your look. Sometimes a lot of the people who make the casting get stuck on a certain look, so you really have to sell your self. I make sure to practice my facial expressions and poses and also to not be afraid to change my look, at least for the shot.

Young Eve has been on Soma Magazine; Box Magazine; Reandevou.com; and working with Michael Vincent.

“Being an African American woman I feel you should display both qualities—beauty and brains, Eve says. “Most of the time we are overlooked or assumed to be just one and not both. So usually when you display both qualities not only are you respected but you get way more work.
