Latina Sensation; Issa
“There is a lot of love in my music, and I hope people feel that love when they listen to my album, she says.
(Issa Bayaua says we’ll be seeing a lot more of her).
Where She’s From: Issa Bayaua was born in San Diego and is the youngest of five siblings.
Issa has been around music since the time she was very young. Her mother was a singer and her uncles have a Mariachi band. She also was raised listening to the likes of Gladys Knight & the Pips, the Temptations, Tina Turner and Donna Summers.
From the time she was five years old, Issa’s mother would bring her to city parks and have her sing in front of families who were picnicking and spending time together. Issa sang all different sorts of songs from both male and female artists, and from many genres of music. “As I got older, I listened to a wide variety of music including jazz, pop, R&B and rock, she recalls.
She moved to Los Angeles to try her luck in the city of opportunity and in late 2004 obtained an audition for TLC’s television show “R U the Girl where she secured a finalist position. However, when the contract was sent to her, Issa became concerned about limiting her options. She felt if she could land a position as finalist for R U the Girl, she could probably find some other opportunities as well. She decided to gamble and explore other avenues.
Where She’s At: As they say, the rest is history. She was introduced to Kairi Brown, who recognized the potential she had and quickly signed her to SoundonSound Entertainment and she started working on her debut album.
She recently recorded a single called "Stay Up" featuring Fat Joe.
Issa’s songs convey love to that special someone, along with some good upbeat party songs, and a song that celebrates a farewell to an ex who doesn’t appreciate what he had. Production credits include Big Bert (J-Lo), Dom and Blake, Del Pearson, and Marc Kinchen. Issa is already being described as “the next Latin Urban Music sensation. Her music is a combination of R&B and Latin music, infused with urban beats and rhythms. It’s a sound she tells The Black Star News “you have not heard before.
To be sure, Issa’s music is based on R&B grooves, and sensual, passionate vocals. “My music combines sounds and images from my Latina and Filipina upbringing for a hot new sound that will sizzle and melt your mind, body and soul, she says. Issa is very happy with the results and is excited to share her music with the world. Check out Issa's website at www.miss-issa.com.
Where She’s Heading: Currently, Issa spends most of her time in the studio recording and dancing. In her free time she likes to spoil her animals, which include three dogs—a Yorkie and 2 Pitbulls—and two cats. “I love shopping, spending time at home relaxing and regrouping, and trying things I have not done before, which is how I discovered my fondness for boxing and salsa dancing, she adds. “There is a lot of love in my music, and I hope people feel that love when they listen to my album, she says. “I try to communicate love of life, love for that special someone, and appreciation of good friends and good times. Life is a gift and an adventurous experience, and I want to express that through my music."
Issa’s Three Favorite Books: “I love national geographic books, to kill a mockingbird, and Henry the VIII.
Issa’s Three Favorite Movies: “The Grudge, Borat, Beauty and the Beast.
First Three Things She Would Do As President: “Somehow figure out how to fight a war without violence and death. We need to save our young men and women, our future; get rid of the IRS-our tax dollars do not get allocated properly; and, continue to fight world hunger, especially as its affects children.â€?Â
