Where She’s From: Beautiful Oksana Lysenko’s family snuck into the US after being deported from Canada; after being granted permanent residency, she has since been realizing her American dream.
“I was born in Moscow, Russia but left when I was four to come to Canada and then finally to New York where I was raised,” she tells The Black Star News. “Some of the most important things I learned from my parents was to study hard so that I wouldn’t have to work as hard as them when I got older. Also, to always try new things whether it was food, or activities.”
Oksana started out going to a college for fashion merchandising but then moved to Los Angeles to attend Make-up Designer school to become a make-up artist. “It’s been my passion since I was 12 years old. As I was in the process of moving to Los Angeles, I decided to try modeling out on the side to see where it would take me, and so far I've just been trying to work on my portfolio to see where I’d like to really take this.”
Where She’s At: “I can definitely see this going far just because I don’t see why a person can't do what they truly want to do. My aspirations are to become successful in anything I do whether it be modeling or something else while still being grounded and happy.”
“It’s hard to see which project you choose will be ‘that’ big break for you,” she says, when asked about dealing with challenges. “I’ve had experiences where a person tries to tell you all this great stuff about their project and how much it can do for you but in the end it is not something you'd really want to sign up for. You have to be very careful and feel people out. If you can read people very easily then that’s a great characteristic to have for this work. If you can't and your naive, you will be set up for a disaster which is sad. This business is male dominant so women need to be very cautious in what they sign up to do.”
Oksana is inspired by successful models and entrepreneurs such as Heidi Klum, Tyra Banks, Alek Wek, Cindy Crawford, and Sean Combs. “They all started small and went through a lot of hardships but yet still made it to the top. It’s always nicer to see those who weren't handed success on a silver platter like Paris Hilton for example,” Oksana tells The Black Star.
How does this beauty prepare to step out?
“Some brands I like to wear are bebe, marciano, rock and republic jeans. I like any designer that makes clothing that flatter the female body--not drape over the body and make you look silly. My favorite perfume is channel chance, makeup products definitely from MAC or NARS because they are very vibrant and bold. Shoes: anything that’s comfortable and usually very low heel because I’m tall so I like to stay away from too big of heels.”
Oksana’s Words Of Wisdom: “Always stay positive, the moment negative thoughts start to arise is the moment that things will start to shatter. Surround yourself with happy people who are positive as well.”
Oksana’s Secrets Of Success: “Well I still have a long way on my road to success but to just stay positive and keep moving forward without looking back helps a lot.”
Oksana’s Favorite Three Movies: “Inside Man, Sicko, Pretty Woman.”
Oksana’s Favorite Three Books: “Rich Dad Poor Dad, 48 Laws Of Power, Of Mice And Men.”

The First Three Things Oksana Would Do As President: “Bring all US troops back. Pre-emptive war is terrorism. Fix our health insurance system and make it free for everyone no exceptions. Fix our corrupt system of the law enforcement.”
Oksana’s Favorite Car: “The Mercedes CLS 55 AMG and anything Infinity makes is nice.”
Oksana’s Five Favorite Entertainers And Their Songs: “Common-I Want You; Celine Dion-To Love You More; ATB-Let You Go; Mariah Carey-Always Be My Baby; and, Sonique-Feels So Good.”
Oksana’s Five Favorite Websites: “www.myspace.com, www.yahoo.com, www.bbc.co.uk, www.youtube.com, www.oxykisses.com.”
A Short Oksana Story: “My family had flown to Canada from Russia in hopes of living there but after our visa expired, Canada did not allow us to live there despite attempts of pleading to stay. They ended up deporting us so we drove very late at night to come into the U.S. The employees at the border were asleep as we drove past so we drove very slowly and quietly and made it into New York illegally. After years and years of court cases and lawyer fees, we finally got the approval to stay here permanently and ever since then, it’s been a blessing.”
