OUR MODEL OF THE DAY

Where She’s From:
Saphangela Saint-vil, whose Zodiac sign is Sagittarius, was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. She lived there for the first five years of her life before her father decided it would be advantageous for her to live in the U.S. and her mother agreed.

“I Lived in New York from ages five to 11. I loved it, she tells The Black Star News. “But after my grandmother was a victim of a robbery twice, my father moved the entire family to Philadelphia where I currently reside. I learned great family values from my father. He was strict but I turned out to be a very well mannered self-respected independent woman due to his ways.

Saphangela attended several schools, including P.S 91 in New York, Olney El. Olney High, and University of Penn Ballroom Dance. “I was discovered in high school, she adds. “I received a contract at age 15 but because my father had his own perception of modeling, he blew my chances of making it big. But when I reached the age of 18, I started networking to find the individuals in the business to launch my career.

Where She’s At: “I don't just want to model, Saphangela continues. “I want to be a role model an inspiration to society---a lot of wonderful things has been happening to me and my career. The young model and entrepreneur has been in Black Men’s Magazine, Word Magazine, fashion shows, various charity shows, and soap operas.

“People come across pretty faces everyday but it's rare when beauty and brains are combined, Saphangela cautions. “I find that people respect you more and have more respect for what you do.

So how does Saphangela prepare to step out? “Gucci, Chanel, Christian Dior, Nine West and many more are some of my favorite hand bags and shoes, she says. “I have over 50 Bath & Body lotions. I like them all but my favorite is Grapefruit—it makes you feel so refreshing. I wear MAC and L'Oreal make-up. My favorite perfume is J'adore because it defines me. I am very picky when it comes to clothes. I dress according to weather, occasion, and the way I feel.
