[Our Model Of The Day]

Where She’s From:
London-based model Taiwo Adedeji was born in Lagos, Nigeria.
He father is a doctor and her mother a dentist—the parents are no longer together but from her mother, she learned, “I have to have a sound education and a professional career to be able to stand on my feet and be independent and find a man I know thoroughly and deeply before delving into marriage or relationship of some sort.”

Taiwo attended secondary school in Nigeria at the Bells Secondary School, Ogun state. She is currently in college studying computing and nvq3 and next year will start studying Business Administration.

Where She’s At:
“Since I was young I loved being part of the school drama and art group which involved singing, acting and anything entertaining,” Taiwo recalls. “I love it best when I'm on the runway. It lifts my spirit up. People tell me I'm a great cat walker--I intend to be a very successful top model and entrepreneur with various businesses I'll be involved in.”

Asked about the challenges and how she deals with them, Taiwo says whenever an agency slams the door, she simply works on a stronger and more diverse portfolio and she bounces right back.

“I have done London Fashion Week 2007 for Georgina Harley-Smith, Flaun Fashion Show, Battle of the Quants all for Gerogie W. Couture and Chaile Ho,” she says, listing some of her most recent works.
Taiwo’s also done a hair show for Angela Plummer and hair and beauty for London Paper magazine, in addition to Young Designer Fashion Awards, and appeared in a music video called Senorita by Full Moonsquad.”

“It’s important to combine beauty and brains because some people are sharks in the industry—to be able to stand up for yourself and decipher if they are right or not in order for them not to control you,” she tells The Black Star.

So how does this young beauty prepare to step out? “I shop in usc and tfnc clothing stores because they're unique and I love Vintage at Camden and Portobello market. I use cocoa butter for my skin, MAC foundation, Versace and Dolce Gabbana and Verveine perfume because it’s got a unique smell. I go to nine west and faith for shoes.
