[Our Beauty Of The Day]

Where She’s From:
Vilayna LaSalle was raised in Killeen, Texas, which she calls “a delightful military town” that neighbors one of the second largest military bases in the world, Fort Hood.

“My childhood was filled with many challenging moments, I guess I can say that, at times, I faced many difficult situations growing up,” she reveals to The Black Star News. “However my parents were strong and supportive but most of all they showed me that there is always light in the darkest of times.”

Vilayna’s career was launched even before she turned 16 when she was selected second in the Regional of the Elite Look of the Year contest. “They came to my town searching for a new face,” she recalls. “So my father took some snap shots of me and we went to the mall to enter the contest.”

Where She's At:
Even though Vilayna recalls how nervous she was, with all the girls that were competing--eventually, she found herself getting one of the flowers for the top three contestants. “In my mind I just thought of models who inspired me at the time like Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell,” she says. “It was a surreal moment. That sparked my interest in pursuing my career as a model.”

“I want to continue to learn and to grow as a model, actress, writer and singer,” Vilayna continues, when asked about her aspirations.

As for dealing with obstacles in the industry, Vilayna notes: “A challenge is only a challenge if you make it so, and that is something I have come to learn and accept. I believe anything can be accomplished with persistence, dedication, passion and heart.”

“I am very proud to have had the opportunity to be a LB-03 clothing model for their look book which was published in Japan,” Vilayna continues, when asked about some of her work, which can also be seen on www.lb-03.com “I graced four national swimsuit calendars in a year time span, being a part of the lingerie bowl as a player for New York euphoria, and many others,” she says, also noting the website www.lingeriebowl.com

Vilayna also was cast on a sketch comedy show “Now that’s Sketchy!” as a recurring principle.

Some of the major photographers she’s worked with includes Jerry Avenaim whose work can be seen at www. jerryavenaim.com and Matthew Jordan Smith who can be found on www.matthewjordansmith.

“I feel that a person who is intelligent as well as beautiful is twice as alluring, in my eyes. It is extremely important to be educated because knowledge is power,” Vilayna notes.

How does this young beauty prepare to step out?

“Currently I am a fan of Loreal’ hip colors and use the products quite often in my photo shoots and when I attend public events,” she says. “I find that their foundations blend well with my yellow undertones and never appear chalky or harsh under bright lights. As far as perfumes I have always been a fan of Chanel no. 5, and princess by Vera Wang. The two scents are similar meaning that even though they are light and not overwhelming they still provide a bold beautiful aura. My favorite clothing lines are Marciano, Valentino, Gucci, Roberto Cavalli, House of Dereon, LB-03, BEBE, Guess, American Apparel, Victoria’s Secret, I guess I have a lot of favorite designers. I like them all because their designs are uniquely sexy and projects an innocent independence that is fierce.”

Vilayna’s Words Of Wisdom:
“Life does not have meaning through mere existence or acquisition or fun. The meaning of life is inherent in the connections we make to others through honor and obligation. So says Dr. Laura Schlesinger.”
Vilayna’s Secrets Of Success: “I believe with persistence, determination, dedication and a firm belief in what you do and who you are, anything can be achieved.”
Vilayna’s Favorite Actors/Actresses: “Johnny Depp, Angela Bassett, Tom Hanks, Angelina Jolie, Adam Sandler, Natalie Portman.”
Three Leaders That Have Most Inspired Vilayna: “Martin Luther King Jr., Gandhi, Bill Clinton. I do not consider Marilyn Monroe a leader but she was a very important icon and she also inspires me because our stories are somewhat relevant.”
The First Three Things Vilayna Would Do As President: “Focus on our health care systems, encourage less energy consumption and focus on providing better education systems for our youth.”
Vilayna’s Favorite Cars: “Fast muscle cars, like Aston Martin, Ferrari, or even older makes and models like the Chevy Camaro and Ford Mustangs.”
