This Beauty Has Ghana's Flavor
“I can't see it going anywhere but to the top, Annani says, of her career.
[Our Beauty Of The Day]
Where She’s From: Dela Annani was born in Chicago, Illinois. Her father is from Ghana, and her mother from the US. “Being a Ghanaian American child, the most important thing I learned is to take from your past and never be ashamed of who you are,” this beauty tells The Black Star News.
Annani went to Thornwood High School and continued to Columbia College, but didn't graduate from Columbia due to financial reasons. She’s heading back to school this Spring after attending community college last semester. “I launched my career back when I was about 16. It wasn't by choice back then. I had to actually grow into modeling because I always thought that I looked so awkward,” she adds, to The Black Star News’s disbelief.
Where She’s At: “I can't see it going anywhere but to the top,” Annani says, of her career. “I want to model for top designers in print ads and maybe runway. I also want to be able to design my own line of couture clothing. My height is a really big challenge for me because nowadays agencies and clients want models 5'9 and up. I try not to get discouraged because I am just as good as the taller models.”
Annani has already done a lot of modeling locally and worked with top photographers and stylists in the Chicago area, including Matt Woods, Tembis Boutique, J Lyntrell, Ana Fong, Cindy Chan, Double Stitch, Nika Vaughn, Stacey-Renee, Nicole Rogers, Fritz Adonis, and many others.
“You cannot get by in life with beauty alone,” she concedes. “There is a business side to the industry as a whole that you have to be able to understand. The more knowledgeable you are, the more respect you will receive.”
So what keeps Annani in the glow and looking so well?
“I am a big fan of cucumber melon body oils,” she says. “Body oils last so much longer then perfume. As for skincare, I have been using a product called Sheamoisture Black Soap and Shea Butter Lotion. I swear by it and refuse to use anything else on my face and body.”
Annani’s Words Of Wisdom: “Take from your past as it will aid in securing a good future.”
Annani’s Secrets Of Success: “Stay humble throughout your success and remember the path you took to get to where you are at this point in life. Use it to go farther.”
Annani’s Favorite Three Movies: “The Wiz, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, and Sankofa”
Annani’s Favorite Three Books: “Coffee Will Make You Black, 48 Laws of Power, and Fly Girl.”
Three Leaders That Have Most Inspired Annani: “Nelson Mandela, Kwame Nkrumah, Harriet Tubman.”
The First Three Things Annani Would Do As President: “I would end the war in Iraq, find resources for katrina survivors, and work on the public aid system so that people who really need it can receive assistance.”
Annani’s Favorite Cars: “I like the older model cars because they can survive an accident versus the plastic cars being manufactured now.”
Annani’s Five Favorite Entertainers And Their Songs: “Bilal- Soul Sister; Goapele- Closer; Damian Marley- For You; Chromeo- Mercury Tears; and, Hugh Masekela- Stimela.”

It was sexy to be against the war back then. He was probably in it to get laid.
