Gloria Lynne: Women in Jazz

Gloria Lynne will be headlining at Lincoln Center — Wednesday through Sunday, September 17th -21st

One of my favorite singers will be headlining at Jazz at Lincoln Center this month.  Gloria Lynne is a consummate performer who always holds her audience in the palm of her hand and Wednesday through Sunday, September 17th -21st will be no exception.  Those who miss her first set at 7:30 p.m. can catch her second set at 9:30 p.m.

In her earlier years, Gloria shared bills with some of the giants of R&B, Jazz, and Pop Music including Johnny Mathis, Billy Eckstine and Ella Fitzgerald.  As Ms. Lynne moved into jazz, she performed with the likes of Bobby Timmons, Philly Joe Jones, Herbie Hancock, Kenny Burrell and Quincy Jones.  In 1997, Lynne won a Pioneer Award presented to her by the Rhythm and Blues Foundation.  She also won the National Black Sports and Entertainment Hall of Fame Award and was recently inducted into Historymakers.     Her signature song, “I Wish You Love,” has become a classic, so it isn’t surprising that Ms. Lynne would be appearing at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, as part of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 4th Annual Diet Coke Women in Jazz Festival.
Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola is located on the 5th Floor, of Jazz at Lincoln Center, Frederick P. Rose Hall, at 60th Street and Broadway, New York City, and this years festivities is expected to be as exciting as past years.  Not only will Gloria Lynne be adding her extraordinary talents to the roster, so will several female denizens of the art of jazz as well as new comers will grace Dizzy’s stage.
