Jessye Norman Sings For Homeless

Jessye Norman has been recognized as possessing one of the world’s most beautiful voices. In December 1997, she received the United States’ highest award in the performing arts, the Kennedy Center Honor.

International opera star and National Spokesperson for The Partnership for the Homeless Jessye Norman will be “bearing witness� to the issues of homelessness and social injustice at St. Bartholomew’s Church on November 20, 2006 at 7 o’clock.

“Bearing Witness,� a Sing Out for Social Justice in our City and Nation, will also include many notable activists, artists and community leaders. Ms. Norman will be joined by Kevin Maynor, a gifted recitalist and a Fulbright Award winner. Bearing Witness will raise awareness of the issue of homelessness; all proceeds will benefit The Partnership for the Homeless.

The Partnership for the Homeless began in 1982 as a single shelter in a Manhattan church. Today, The Partnership’s public/private collaborations, direct service programs, and advocacy efforts help families and individuals make the successful transition from New York streets to permanent housing, skilled jobs, and self-sufficiency.

In fall 2005, PFTH adopted a new strategic plan focused on eliminating homelessness in NYC by 2020.
