SHARON ISBIN, acclaimed for her extraordinary lyricism, technique and versatility, was born in 1956 in Minnesota and began her guitar studies at age nine after her family moved to Italy. She studied classical music with the great Spanish guitarist Andrés Segovia, Italian guitarist Oscar Ghiglia and pianist Rosalyn Tureck. The multi GRAMMY Award-winning guitarist received both a B.A. cum laude and a Master of Music from the Yale School of Music. Isbin has given sold-out performances at the finest concert halls world-wide and has served as Artistic Director/Soloist of festivals she created for Carnegie Hall and the Ordway Music Theatre (St. Paul), her own series at New York’s 92nd Street Y and the acclaimed national radio series Guitarjam.

She has recorded more than twenty-five albums of music ranging from Baroque and Spanish/Latin to crossover and jazz-fusion including her 2010 GRAMMY Award winning CD Journey to the New World, which spent 63 consecutive weeks on the top Billboard charts. The author of the Classical Guitar Answer Book, Isbin is the winner of Guitar Player magazine’s “Best Classical Guitarist” award, has been profiled in periodicals from People to Elle, The Wall Street Journal, and the New York Times and is currently the Director of Guitar Studies at The Julliard School. A one-hour film documentary on her titled Sharon Isbin: Troubadour will premiere in 2014.

ROMERO LUBAMBO was born in 1955 in Rio de Janeiro and studied classical piano and musical theory as a young boy. Switching to the guitar at age 13, he graduated from Rio’s Villa-Lobos School of Music in 1978. After moving to New York in 1985, he became very much in demand, not only for the cool, sophisticated rhythms of his authentic Brazilian sound, but also for his fluency in the American jazz tradition. Called the “best Brazilian guitarist there is” by Herbie Mann, he is a premier fingerstylist, equally masterful on both the acoustic and electric guitars. One of the most frequently recorded guitarists in the world, Lubambo has performed and collaborated with many outstanding artists including Michael Brecker, Yo-Yo Ma, Diana Krall, Wynton Marsalis, Paquito D’Rivera, Gato Barberi and Harry Belafonte among many others.

STANLEY JORDAN, virtuoso jazz electric guitarist and pianist, was born in Chicago in 1959, and grew up in the San Francisco Bay area. He started piano lessons at age six, added the guitar at age eleven and in 1976, won his first musical award at the Reno Nevada Jazz Festival. In 1981, he earned a B.A. in music from Princeton University where he studied with composers Milton Babbitt and Paul Lansky and played with Benny Carter and Dizzy Gillespie. Jordan came to prominence with the release of his 1985 album Magic Touch on Blue Note Records which was number one on Billboard’s jazz chart for an astounding 51 weeks and highlighted his innovative “touch technique”, an advanced form of two handed tapping on the guitar’s fretboard instead of conventional strumming and picking.

Jordan’s touch technique allows him to play melody and chords with fluid, multi-layered textures simultaneously on one or even two different guitars or on guitar and piano. A worldwide performer both as a soloist and with his own band, he has collaborated with a diverse array of artists including Art Blakey, Richie Cole, Stanley Clarke, Kenny Rogers, Kevin Eubanks and Sharon Isbin. Nominated for four GRAMMYs, his most recent album Friends (2011) was nominated for an NAACP Image Award.

Lehman Center is supported, in part, with public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the New York City Council.  The 2013-2014 season is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, JPMorgan Chase, Con Edison and through corporations, foundations and private donations.
