Tank took time out of his busy schedule to talk to this journalist about his upcoming show with El Debarge, the group called Troop and himself for the “Rhythm of the Night” concert on Saturday, November 19th at 8pm at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts, located at 250 Bedford Park Blvd. West in the Bronx.

I was a military brat. We traveled a lot but I started school in Milwaukee and then by 5th grade we moved to Maryland and I grew up there. I started singing at age 5, playing piano and drums,” mentioned Tank. “It was fun kid stuff trying to be like my older cousin who sang, played instruments and sang in the church choir. I didn’t realize I had talent until 7th grade. It was around that time when someone told me I could really sing. My parents didn’t discourage me, they simply thought music was one of my phases since I wanted to play basketball, baseball, sing, write, perform and produce. So, my parents let me decide what direction I wanted to go in life,” explained the prolific songwriter.

Tank has been doing very well musically with most of his songs being hit makers. His very first album Force of Nature went gold. “Forces of Nature almost went platinum if we count all the CDs that were bootlegged as well as the Napster epidemic that was happening at the time. I like to count those records because at least a million people have that album. The album was a great introduction to the business, especially when I wrote and produced 100% of it. It established me as a writer and producer. That really helped put me in a space where I will be in the business for a good little while,” remarked Tank who counts among his hits “Maybe I Deserve,” “Slowly,” “One Man,” “and “Let Me Live.”

In 2007, Tank put out the album Sex, Love and Pain which earned two Grammy nominations. This album included the hit “Please Don’t Go.” He worked with Chris Brown twice, once on the album “Now or Never” and then again on the tune “Foreplay. He has collaborated with and worked with artists such as Aaliyah, Dave Hollister, Brian McKnight, Jamie Foxx, Donell Jones, Ruben Studdard, Kelly Roland, Busta Rhymes and Beyonce to name a few.

I have written for and produced music for several artists. I was blessed with talent. So if someone wants me to sing background, I sing background. If they want me to play keyboards, I play keyboard, whatever. As long as it has to do with music I am with it. It is just how I rock. I got kids to feed.” stated Tank who has kids ages 1 ½ up to 15 years old.

Tank will be sharing the stage with El Debarge and Troop as part of the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts Rhythm of the Night show on Saturday, November 19th, 8pm, in the Bronx.

I think it’s going to be a amazing show. I am really good friends with Troop and I’ve looked up to El Debarge for the longest. I think its awesome to be on the bill with some very influential artists. I encourage folks to come out and become part of this R&B thing we are doing. It is going to be something,” claimed the versatile performer who participated in the Underdogs scoring of the movie “Dreamgirls” and who has lent his talents to movies as an actor. In fact, Tank will be making a guest appearance on the TV show “Saints and Sinners” in the upcoming future.

I don’t just draw what I do from one source. A song can come from anything. It’s life. Waking up and going through that everyday routine. It’s limitless. Everyone has a song in them. It’s all music,” said Tank who encourages folks to buy tickets by calling 718-960-8833 or go online at www.lehmancenter.org.
