Not many people are aware of this, but perhaps by the end of this year, it will not be unprecedented for western artists to include Uganda in their itinerary when touring. It is not such a big country, its population is 30.9 million and has over 40 different ethnic groups.

Well why has it suddenly become a must go destination for artists from the western world? It has come to the attention of many promoters both in Uganda and in UK and USA that Ugandans are very hungry for these artists and that it is also a very lucrative venture for the artists and their promoters.

Just last year Montell Jordan paid a visit to a sold out crowd. Kevin Little also played at a sell out audience at the end of 2007. UB40 will hit Kampala on February 23 and singers KI and Jo Jo are said to be planning a concert for Easter time in Uganda.

Akon has played in his native land Senegal. Uganda is a new destination. Its capital Kampala is a ball of energy, the term “city that never sleeps” certainly qualifies to be used when describing it. So for artists who decide to play there, it is none stop parting until they leave, and they usually leave with a fat pocket.
