The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will celebrate International Girls in ICT Day this year with a hybrid event on 25 April 2024, that will be anchored at the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana.

The CARICOM Girls in ICT Partnership and the Restore a Sense of I Can (RSC) organisation will partner to host this year’s observance under the theme ‘Inspiring Youth Innovation, Leading Change in CARICOM’.

The event will highlight the importance of STEM education, particularly in ICT, and will showcase career opportunities in these fields. Organisers are aiming to engage 50 000 participants from 15 Caribbean countries.

The programme will include sessions with speakers from government, industry, and education sectors, as well as breakout sessions that will feature presentations, workshops, simulations, gaming, and motivational talks. Participants will be exposed to generative artificial intelligence, digital hygiene, ways to empower girls, and insights from parents and teachers.

Since 2011, Girls in ICT Day is observed annually and is aimed at building awareness about the gender digital divide, supporting technology education and skills training, and encouraging more girls and young women to actively pursue careers in STEM.
