U.S. Senate candidate Lawrence Hamm called upon the Biden administration today to reject Israel’s efforts to draw the U.S. into a war with Iran. He also called for economic sanctions against the state of Israel.
“I am absolutely opposed to a war with Iran. Such a war would lead to a regional conflagration and possibly a world war. It would be a catastrophic disaster,” Hamm stated.
Hamm is also chairman of the People’s Organization For Progress (POP), a grassroots organization that works for racial, social, economic justice and peace.
“I call upon President Biden and his administration to refrain from any and all actions on the part of the U.S. that would lead to a war with Iran. I believe the majority of Americans do not want to see our country go to war with Iran,” Hamm said. “Further, I call upon the Biden administration to resist any attempts by Israel to force the U.S. into a war with Iran. It is clear to me that the Netanyahu government’s attacks against Iran are part of an effort to provoke a war with that country.”
“While Netanyahu may believe this to be in his interest and the interest of the state of Israel, it is not in the best interest of the of the United States and the American people,” he said.
Hamm said the attacks on Iran are not only an attempt to provoke a war with that country, but they are also part of a strategy to draw attention away from Israel’s ongoing genocidal war against the Palestinians in Gaza and now the West Bank.
“Israel is a threat to peace and stability in the region. It is bombing Iran, Lebanon, Syria, the West Bank and carrying out genocide in Gaza. It is a rogue state with nuclear weapons,” he said.
However, its actions are made possible by the tax dollars of U.S. citizens in the form of billions in military aid, weapons sales and transfers. “I believe our continued aid to Israel is in violation of international and U.S. domestic laws,” Hamm said.
“It is time to end military aid to Israel. We must end it immediately. Other countries have stopped providing military aid to Israel and the U.S. should do the same,” he said “We should not provide one more dollar as long as Israel continues to provoke war in the region, commit genocide in Gaza, violate Palestinian human rights, and continue its illegal occupation.”
Hamm said in addition to engaging in genocide Israel is also a racist apartheid state and the the same measures imposed against racist white minority ruled apartheid South Africa should be imposed against Israel.
“Today I am calling upon the Biden administration and Congress to impose economic sanctions against the state of Israel. We have imposed the strictest sanctions against other nations for lesser transgressions. This would be the just thing to do,” Hamm stated. “We must do everything in our power to prevent war in Iran. We don’t need another forever war costing American lives and trillions of dollars like the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Vietnam,” he said.
