As Ugandans are aware, the formation of The Democratic Alliance (TDA) was announced to the country on June 10, 2015.

TDA is an alliance of democracy-seeking forces committed to bringing about positive change in the country including the establishment of a credible electoral management system.

The Democratic Alliance held its first meeting of the Summit in Kampala on June 17, 2015 and made the following important decisions:

1. The Alliance members agreed to invite 10 eminent leaders to be members of the Summit in accordance with the TDA Protocol.

2. The Summit by consensus elected Prof. Fredrick Ssempebwa as co-chair of the Summit.

3. The Summit also assigned the following members to provide leadership on the following business of the Alliance:

Hon. Asuman Basalidwa – Campaign Strategy and Coordination Committee

Ambassador Wasswa Biriggwa – Finance and Fundraising committee

Hon. Wafula Oguttu – Media, Publicity, Outreach Committee Owek. Mulwanyammuli Semwogerere – Dispute Resolution Committee

Hon. John Kawanga – Legal Affairs Committee

The Summit will reconvene in a week’s time to conclude deliberations on the membership of eminent persons and constitute the National Candidates Committee to start work on the candidates nominations process.

Once again, the Summit wishes to assure the people of Uganda that The Democratic Alliance will spare no effort and stand united in the campaign for free and fair elections. Elections belong to the people of Uganda and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that when Ugandans vote, their votes are counted, announced and respected.
