Brothers: Museveni And Kony

Both men are intolerant of opposition, with one forcing his chief political rival (a former friend and colleague, and even personal physician) to flee into exile after he dared contest him in an election (which many people thought he actually won); the other, also forcing his rivals (former friends and co-LRA fighters) to flee after they dared question his strategies, or lack thereof. Both men have also been accused, for many years now, of orchestrating the "elimination" of rivals, or potential rivals. Rather than rivals, the two seem more like best friends.

The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that President Yoweri K. Museveni and Joseph Kony have been conspiring together to destroy Uganda for the past 20 years. The two men are not enemies at all—at least I don't believe so. Their modus operandi is too similar to be coincidental.

Both men have been in "power" for 20 years now. One as President and commander, first of a "bush army" then of a national army; the other, in his own way, in his own mind, has also been "president," and has been commander of a "bush army" which he hopes to one day transform into a national army.

Neither man has ever contested in a truly open election. Both have engaged in disastrous wars, causing countless deaths and destruction of much property and resources; one by ordering his armed forces into the Congo, the other by ravaging Acholi region.

Both men have kidnapped innocent Acholis; one has spirited them away to the Sudan, where many suffered, were killed or died, while the other has confined them against their will in concentration camps within Uganda, where many suffer, are killed, or die.

Both derive their power through the barrel of the gun; and both, want five more years.

If one of them “relinquished power, there would be no need for the other to endure. Rather than rivals, the two seem more like best friends.
