Regarding the situation of civil war faced by Libya, Venezuela’s President Hugo Chávez wrote on his Twitter account @chavezcandanga: “Nicolás (Chávez’s foreign affairs minister), teach another lesson to  the (Venezuelan) extreme right-wing/pitiyanquis/! Long live Libya and its independence! Qaddafi faces a civil war!”

The Venezuelan president wrote this as his Foreign Affairs Minister Nicolás Maduro was giving a speech at the National Assembly (Venezuela’s Parliament).

“In Libya, the first steps towards secession and division have been taken,” pointed out Maduro, who also warned that “the first steps towards a process of civil war have been taken to get oil out of this OPEC nation.”

When referring to those who demand justice due to Libya’s situation, Maduro indicated that “there is a double standard when demanding a punishment.” He asked: “Why don’t you demand an investigation on and punishment to those who have killed 7 million Iraqis and those who are bombing Palestine?”

“Libya is going through difficult times; which should not be distorted with information coming from imperial news agencies,” he added.

The Venezuelan foreign affairs minister recalled that this nation “has played a fundamental role” in the OPEC, in the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the African Union and the Arab League. Maduro also said that Libya has maintained a close relation with Venezuela since the 70s.
