Well Wishes For Venezuela’s Chavez on Social Media

Dozens of get-well messages addressed to President Hugo Chávez are arriving each day at the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the U.S. in Washington, DC, following an announcement by the Venezuelan leader that he will soon undergo another surgery after having a cancerous tumor removed last June.

Venezuelans, Americans and Latin Americans have expressed love and solidarity with the Venezuelan president through letters, emails and messages on the Facebook and twitter pages of the Venezuelan diplomatic mission.

“Mr. Chavez, please get well soon, you are loved; God bless you and keep you-I wish I could visit and send flowers to you,” Sandye McCleskey wrote on the Embassy’s Facebook page.

“We need thousands of more Chávez… Go forward, Commander!,” commented Ramón Pérez.

Matthew Geary, another fan of the Embassy on Facebook, wrote: “Best wishes for a successful surgery, a speedy recovery, and continued good health, President Chavez!”

Yonnier Salazar called for a chain of prayers for the Venezuelan president. “National prayer for the President at 9 pm. Write your prayers via twitter.”

In a letter sent to the Venezuelan diplomatic mission in Washington, DC, Carlos Ochoa Silva expressed his admiration for the Latin American president and wished him “many years of life and leadership.”

President Chávez  who travels to Havana today to undergo treatment on Thursday said: “I want to thank everyone, since I have no time to reply to all the messages. Thank you very much, Cristina [Fernández de Kirchner], Evo Morales, all your words make me stronger; Olanta Humala, Rafael Correa, President Santos, Mexico’s [Felipe] Calderón, Daniel Ortega and all friends of this world, thank you very much.”
