Tomorrow, Wednesday, January 29 at 6 p.m., Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) will host a roundtable discussion on strategies to combat the widespread contamination of America’s drinking water with PFAS compounds—so-called “forever chemicals” known to cause cancer, birth defects, and other serious ailments.

Senator Sanders will be joined by lawmaker Michigan Rep. Debbie Dingell, scientific expert Dr. Anna Reade, and actor\activist Mark Ruffalo star of the 2019 film “Dark Waters.”

The roundtable will be held at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center – Congressional Auditorium and Atrium (CVC 200). The panel roundtable will run from 6-7 p.m.

Sanders will also unveil new legislation to clean up PFAS toxins in municipal drinking supplies, designate the class of PFAS chemicals as hazardous pollutants, and prohibit their widespread use in food containers and packaging.

Immediately following the panel discussion, Sanders will host a screening of the film “Dark Waters,” which dramatizes the real-life story of attorney Robert Bilott and community members of West Virginia, who partnered to sue the DuPont Corporation for damages related to the company’s decades-long effort to dump thousands of tons of PFAS chemicals into West Virginia’s drinking water while concealing evidence of their toxicity.

The event will be live-streamed at www.facebook.com/senatorsanders.
