Black women around the world are getting rid of the perms that make their hair straight. Natural hair is all the rage and it’s more than just a trend.

That’s according to Curl Prep Natural Hair Solutions founder, Candace Kelley. A native of New Jersey, she has been running sold out natural hair care seminars for almost two years.

She has a major following from women who want her product, and want to be empowered. “Many women are afraid of their natural hair, but is makes sense because many haven’t seen their own hair in decades,” she says.

They now come to Candace Kelley for guidance. From Plainfield and Lakehurst, to Roselle and South Orange, Kelley has been everywhere and now she is hosting a Natural Hair Goddess Signature Event on June 18, from 1pm-4pm at the Newark Public Library. Tickets are $22, 2 for $40 and will feature a guest appearance by comedienne and actress Kim Coles.

At these events, women gather to discuss how to do natural hair, freeing themselves from chemical perms, and network with other. There’s an automatic bond within the group. From those with natural hair questions to women with cancer and other health issues who need a new hair beginning, Candace knows her events are about more than about hair. “Breakthroughs happen,” Kelley says.

As a businesswoman Kelley saw the opportunity when she was stopped on the streets by women who had questions about her hair. She now has a popular line of products, an active web site, the soon to be released book Coif Cuisine and she will be opening Grassrooots Studio at 163 Shrewsbury Avenue in Red Bank, New Jersey along with business partner Gilda Rogers. “This is a place where women can get hair makeovers, attend seminars and gather information about hair and whole body wellness,” she says.
