Kiwanis Bed Stuy Health Fair

Kiwanis Club of Bedford Stuyvesant will hold a free family health fair on Saturday, March 20, 2010. The purpose of the health fair is to raise awareness about diabetes and to provide wellness information to the community. The health fair will take place at 609 Dekalb Avenue, from 10am to 2pm.

The community is invited to take advantage of free glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol screenings. There will also be a presentation on Diabetes with a question and answer segment. “We are especially interested in having children aged 12 and over and their parents attend this session,” said Pernon Dunston, President. of the Kiwanis Club, Bedford Stuyvesant Chapter “Diabetes is at epidemic proportions due to childhood obesity, and this year our goal is to raise awareness about prevention and treatment of this chronic disease," Dunston added.

The health fair will also feature information on asthma, cancer prevention, and HIV/AIDS awareness. “In addition, we have asked experts to provide information on access to Medicare, Medicaid, and other insurance entitlements for those who are uninsured or underinsured,” Mr. Dunston said.

The Kiwanis club of Bedford Stuyvesant is known for its wonderful work in the community. The local club is a part of a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time. “

We look forward to having many families and individuals attend our health fair. With numerous free screenings, information, activities and giveaways, there will be something for everyone,” Dunston concluded.
