It is never too early to prepare for college.

Deborah Kerr, a Queens Library Boost coordinator at Cambria Heights Community Library is heeding President Barack Obama’s call to pave a way for those interested in college to attend by organizing four college preparatory programs.

The free-and open-to-the public series of programs started with the “College Application Timeline” seminar on Thursday, May 20th at 4:00 p.m. at Cambria Heights Library, located at 218-13 Linden Boulevard. According to Kerr, this workshop provides participants with a detailed timeline for the college application process.” Terms such as rolling admissions, early decision and early action were explained.

Middle school and high school students are encouraged to attend. The second workshop, “Find Funds For College” was held on Friday, May 21 at 4 p.m. at Cambria Heights Library.  At this session students were introduced to at least 50 scholarships.

An area often neglected is how to persevere in college once you are admitted.  “College 101 Survival and Success” addressed this issue as well as the contributing factors to a high college drop out rate.

At this workshop convened on Monday, May 24th at 4:00 p.m. at Cambria Heights Community Library, attendees were informed of  “survival and success strategies to aid their college socialization.”

The series final workshop on Wednesday May 26 at 4:00 p.m. covers “Time Management and Network for College.” Admission is free. The award-winning Queens Library is accessible by public transportation (buses: Q4, Q27 and Q77.)
