Comment: The charge is sometimes made that Blacks play the race card in order to deflect attention away from an objective determination of their guilt. This could not have been the case with Prof. Gates, who was completely innocent of the charge of breaking and entering the premises. My conclusion is that he was sincere, though he exercised bad judgment by verbally attacking a police officer who was there to protect the property where Gates lived.

Subject: The President Made Racist Remark
Comment: The president made a racist comment because he did not take the time to find out all of the details of the arrest before presumptuously commenting that the "police acted stupidly." The president had a "pre-conceived" opinion regarding racial profiling by police that is backed up by statistics, but the very definition of racism involves "preconceived opinions" aimed at a group of people, IE. All white police commit racial profiling therefore this
is just another example of what all white police do. It is like saying
black commit more crime therefore police should stop and interrogate black people more. Racism is only evident when an individual expresses an opinion that lumps an entire group into the same stereotype without investigating individuals on a case by case basis. Two wrongs never make a right. The minute anyone becomes belligerent with a police officer they are in jeopardy
of arrest. To provoke the police with belligerent and defiant behavior and then claim racism after an arrest is evidence of reverse racism.
Editor's Note: "To provoke the police with belligerent and defiant behavior and then claim racism after an arrest is evidence of reverse racism. ..." What kind of nonsense is this? While Gates may have acted like a cad, once Crowley established that it was his residence he should have left. Police aren't supposed to make "revenge" arrests or "anger-based" arrests.
We also find it troubling that you're not bothered that while the 911 caller never mentioned "Black men," Crowley, wrote two "Black men" in his bogus police report. He is a troubled man.

Comment: This should never have been a race issue. Gates is making it a race issue and you are spreading untruths. the 911 tapes never mention the color of the skin of the men at the residence trying to enter the house. You need to retract that lie--libel I believe it is called. You are making it a race issue.
Editor's Note: Do you live on Mars? The caller never mentioned race yet Sgt. Crowley wrote in his Police Report that she mentioned two Black men! He may end up getting fired; he should get fired. He certainly does not deserve beer at The White House

Comment: Well I am 74, and white and I marched for civil rights in Birmingham in 1963, I also remember that Amadou Diallo, was standing in his own doorway ten years ago, Diallo a young man working during the day and going to college at night, he (Diallo) reached into his pocket for his wallet to show his ID to four policemmen. 41 shots rang out and he was very dead in a bloodbath. Now lets look at Massachusetts Law. (By the way my daughter is a professor and lives in Dartmouth Ma),
Do you have to.....

Comment: Dan Riehl explores a charity headed by Professor Skip Gates which takes in a lot of money, pays out very little, mostly to his colleagues and assistants at Harvard, was late filing the necessary papers and lists as its office the house Gates rents from Harvard.
Perhaps as Ann Althouse suggested yesterday on her blog there was something in his home that Gates did not want the police to see.
Editor's Note: Now, now Eliza. Let's pull back before we start looking like some of those conspiracy nuts. Gates acted like a cad; Crowley acted like a tyrant

Comment: Here is an interesting quote from Gates himself that you can read on the Gateway Pundit.
Dr. Henry Louis Gates held this conversation in 1994 on how impressed he was with racist America-hater Malcolm X.
"LAMB: At one point you had a line in there, something to the effect, "My mother despised white people."
GATES: My mother hated white people.
LAMB: All her life?
GATES: Probably. I didn't know until -- in 1959 we were watching Mike Wallace's documentary called "The Hate that Hate Produced." It was about the Nation of Islam and I couldn't believe -- I mean, Malcolm X was talking about the white man was the devil and standing up in white people's faces and telling them off. It was great...And she loved Malcolm X and she loved what the Muslims were doing..."
(Excerpt) Read more at booknotes.org ...
Editor's Note: Malcolm X was the essence and epitomy of the transformative capacity of these United States of America. At the time of his death, he had embraced humanitarian ideals that very few humanbeings can ever achieve. You should try it--start by reading "The Autobiography of Malcolm X..." While you're at it, go to YouTube and watch "Malcolm X Oxford Debates" (Yes, the real Oxford University), then watch "Who Taught You To Hate Yourself."

Comment: Here comes the racist train, all aboard! I knew it was only a matter of time before Sharpton the king of racists starts his nonsense to stir the pot. Gates was wrong for not identifying himself, plain and simple. Obama was wrong for his stupid comment. Imagine Bush calling a black officer stupid on national television?
The police has a duty to investigate all calls and protect the citizens. For now on how about Gates will be free to do what he wants in his white hating home.
Editor's Note: Aren't you the one driving the racist train? Gates is racist towards whites when he was married to a white woman? Duh!

Subject: Crowley Is NOT A RACIST
Comment: At least put up accurate information. Sergeant James Crowley of the Cambridge Police Department IS NOT A RACIST. He's an instructor in how not to racial profile. In 1993 Sargaent Crowley was down on his hands and knees giving mouth to mouth resucitation trying to save Boston Celtics star Reggie Lewis.
There is a You Tube video about it. "1993 Account Of Efforts To Save Reggie Lewis."
Officer Crowley is owed an apology from Dr. Gates who gave Sgt. Crowley no
alternative but to arrest him with Dr. Gates disgraceful behavior. President Obama then complicated matters by not getting all the facts before
blasting the Cambridge Police Dept.
Do the right thing.
Editor's Note: We do the right thing by publishing your comment. You don't know if he's a racist or not just as we don't know either. And since when are cops supposed to arrest people --Black or White-- for "disgraceful behavior"? Are you serious? Also remember, Officer Justin Wolpe of the New York Police Department, a depraved racist who sodomized Abner Louima with a broom stick and destroyed his insides.....guess what....He had a Black girlfriend.

I'm so tired of hearing about Crowley being in potential danger and that he acted wisely because he didn't know the circumstances and potential risks involved!!! I'm still trying to figure out what BURGLAR comes to the door!!! A BURGLAR would try to flee the scene. Crowley is STUPID! He was trying to see who could PISS the farthest! This was all about male ego and Testosterone!

Comment: Thank you for your article. The police department basically acted like Gates was a 5 year old and Crowley believed he needed a time-out. They even had the nerve to ask the President for an apology because of his opinion. PAUL commented and said Black people have blind support...as if the police department didn't have BLIND SUPPORT behind Crowley! Crowley only made a bad situation WORSE! What an idiot!

Comment: Are you just trying to be dramatic or you believe what you wrote? Were you there? Have you personally interviewed Professor Gates? If the answers are no, then you are a big part of the problem. You think a citizen asks one confrontational question and our police force immediately schemes to entrap him into a situation where they can justify his arrest? And why was he mad that the police force for which he pays taxes had the NERVE to respond to a call to protect his property and perhaps
Editor's Note: Were you there? Or like the rest of us are you also making reasonable assessments? Unless you're saying yours is the universal assessment?

Subject: Racism is this country goes both ways!
Comment: This is just like so many other racial issues in the country these days. White people are always at fault and MUST be the racist, even though there are more Blacks in our day that are the TRUE racists now. Anything Black people do now has the blind support of any other Black person. It is offensive and it shows the true nature of the Black culture currently. Hopefully that changes so that true peace and racial equallity can take place in America.
Editor's Note: Your own words: "It is offensive and it shows the true nature of the Black culture currently...." So all Black people are the same and feel the same way? Hopefully not most white folk think like you ....

Get your facts straight Gates did wrong and put his nice guy twist on it after he agreed to the police report!!!! BTW God didn't write the report but Gates agreed to it.
Editor's Note: When and where did Gates agree to it? Where are you getting your information from? The New York Post?

Comment: Really? Just like that? Did you read the police report? I'm reading the editor's note from the last post on here where you say Police reports are not always sacrosanct...Mr. Gates SAW the police report and AGREED with the report. He didn't question that he made fun of the cop's mother or that he was warned at least 3 times to quiet down. So the part of the report that shows CROWLEYnot only warning him but taking out his handcuffs-should have been ENOUGH warning for Mr. Gates ....

This sound like all the experts that rendered an opinion, before the facts were know, in the Duke Lacrosse allegations.
What factual information led to you rendering this opinion? Could their be a bias on your part?
I am not saying the Officer acted correctly, it is that during certain
incidents like this we have the experts rendering an opinion without having all the information.

Comment: The police report by a different officer describes Gates as refusing to provide identification, and repeatedly accusing Crowley of stopping him because he is Black, and shouting loudly into the streets, drawing a crowd. The report also says that Gates would not allow Crowley to explain why they were there in the first place.
Evidently the Black Star News feels that police officers should take the word of all individuals when showing up at the scene of a break-in.
Editor's Note: Police reports are not always sacrosanct

Sgt. Crowley Was Stupid; But President Can't Say That |

[Black Star News Editorial]
The President should not have said the arrest of Prof. Henry Louis Gates by Sergeant James Crowley of the Cambridge Police Department was "stupid," even though the president was right.
In fact, Crowley's action was very stupid; not just stupid. We're not even referring to the fact that he is not familiar with one of the nation's most visible intellectual; or at least he pretended not to know Gates.
We're referring only to his police actions.
Yet, President Obama should leave those charged words to others, including his underlings to use. Right Wing zealots, including Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly and gun-worshippers will twist and distort the president's words. They will turn James Crowley, whose actions may have indeed been racist and most certainly was "stupid" into some sort of law-and-order hero.
Crowley responded to a call by a neighbor who had witnessed two Black men seemingly trying to break into a house--it actually belongs to Gates, who rents it from Harvard University.
Gates, understandably was angry when, while already in his house, Crowley arrived on the scene. It's been reported that when Crowley demanded to see his identification, the professor said something to the effect, "Why? Because I'm a Black man in America?"
We can presume that Crowley said something in response. Here's where it gets interesting.
Crowley knew that it would be problematic if he were to arrest Gates inside his house; yet, he wanted to arrest Gates who had questioned whether he was being treated as a suspect because he was Black.
So, Crowley asked Gates to step outside. The professor identified himself, stepped outside, and was then promptly arrested for "disorderly conduct," which, in this case was, "How dare you suggest that I may be a racist?"
It was a revenge arrest. And that's what the President said was "stupid," in the sense that the professor had already identified himself as the rightful owner of the house. This, presumably, was why Crowley had been sent to the scene in the first place.
Yet, Crowley could not shake loose the any-Black-man-is-a-suspect attitude ingrained in the minds of many police officers.
Still, the president's success so far has been primarily due to his ability to delicately negotiate the nation's racial fault lines. That's why he must be careful when he uses words such as "stupid," which goes towards the intelligence of other individuals.
Obama haters will accuse him of preferring wise Latinas and discriminating against stupid white policemen. And even though he was referring to this special incident, the Obama-haters will distort the meaning, as they already are, to suggest that he was referring to white police officers in general.
We here at The Black Star can say Crowley's action was stupid. President Obama should have said Crowley's action was "perplexing" because any fair minded person can see that it was wrong for him to arrest Gates after he had already identified himself.
