Terror Vs. Freedom: Has 7/11 Bought More Time For General Museveni?
As we feared, public gatherings have been banned, and it is likely that Gen. Museveni and his lackeys in the security services will wave the security card like a preacher does the Bible, to frustrate opposition gatherings and political organizing. Full Story

[Film Premiere]

On the night of Monday, March 22, the cast of Tyler Perry's "Why Did I Get Married Too," the sequel to Perry's smash 2007 film hit "Why Did I Get Married," premiered at the School of Visual Arts Theatre.

All the original cast members from the original film which featured Tyler Perry, Janet Jackson, Sharon Leal, Jill Scott, Malik Yoba, Lamman Rucker, Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White and Richard T. Jones, returned once again to reprise their roles and
were resplendent on the red carpet for the film's sequel.

Also present was legendary actress Cicely Tyson who makes a special appearance in the film. Actor Louis Gossett Jr., who played Tyson's husband Porter in the film, was unable to make it to Monday night's premiere. Other celebrity guests who showed up on the red carpet for the premiere were radio show host (and Oprah Winfrey's best friend) Gayle King, actress Terri Vaughn, Reverend Al Sharpton, television judge Greg Mathis, Quinton Aaron, and Keenah Hill of America's Next Top Model.

They were just some of the guests who showed up to support Perry and the rest of the cast. The Black Star News had the opportunity to speak with Tyler Perry at the premiere. When asked why he felt now was the right time to release the
sequel after a three year lapse between the first film.  He replied, "I just listened to the characters and wondered what was most important to me.  What was on everybody's mind. It was important to me to be able to look at the characters and feel they had more to say."

When asked whether there will be a third sequel following Why Did I Get Married Too, Perry responded that it depended on whether people came to see Part II.

This reporter also had the chance to meet up with actress Tasha Smith who returned to her role as the over-the-top character Angela in the sequel. I asked Ms. Smith what the experience was like filming in the Bahamas.  She replied that there were a lot of moth bats flying around. However, she replied that her favorite thing about working with Tyler this time around was she got
to work with someone as wonderful, courageous, and  creative as Tyler, who also wrote, produced and directed the film.

Actor Richard T. Jones who returns in the film as Mike, the ex-husband of Jill Scott's character Sheila, discussed what inspired him to come back to his character and do it all over again.  He remarked that he talked with Perry about the direction of his character and the scenes in this second movie, since as some of you may remember in the first movie Jone's character, Mike, was the main antagonist in the film.  When asked whether Mike had changed in "Why Did I Get Married, Too," Jones laughed and simply said, "He better!"  He went on to say he thought Mike did change a little bit.

The movie follows the couples we came to know and love in the first film as they reunite and reconnect on vacation in the Bahamas and as they come to terms with their marital troubles and truly examine Why they got married.

Why Did I Get Married Too is Perry's ninth film for Lionsgate films. The film is set to be released in theaters nationwide on April 2, 2010.
