In a statement to NBC, former Democratic Presidential candidate John Edwards has publicly admitted he fathered a now 2-year-old daughter with Rielle Hunter, through an affair with a campaign worker.

The former Senator from North Carolina senator said of the daughter Frances Quinn Hunter:

“I am Quinn’s father. I will do everything in my power to provide her with the love and support she deserves. I have been able to spend time with her during the past year and trust that future efforts to show her the love and affection she deserves can be done privately and in peace.

Edwards carried on the affair even while he disclosed that his wife was ailing with terminal cancer. He had also hoped for Obama to pick him as running mate after bowing out of the race.
