William Bellomo: “For the same price, with boutique wineries, you get a far superior product that has been produced by people who stake their reputations on their productions.

The results are in: Americans love a good glass of wine. According to the Wine Institute, California wine sellers in the United States alone set a record high in 2005, selling 441 million gallons of wine.

Still, what constitutes a good glass of wine? Some believe it’s something with a high price tag or fancy label, or a wine that’s produced by a large corporation. But what many people are learning is that you don’t need to spend a fortune to get a great-tasting wine.

“The price you pay for the wine you buy in a store is based on how much the corporation that bottled that wine thinks they can get for the particular brand, explains William Bellomo, president of AVA California Wine (http://AVAWine.com), a company that represents California boutique wineries. “For the same price, with boutique wineries, you get a far superior product that has been produced by people who stake their reputations on their productions.

Through their Web site, wine lovers can purchase wine from over 30 boutique wineries. Not only are consumers getting the chance to see all of these selections at one place, but they also get free shipping on all purchases. For the wine enthusiast, the site also offers a wine-of-the-month club, where members get two bottles of boutique wine delivered to their door each month. Visitors can shop by wine color, grape variety, region, price, and winery.

“There’s no doubt that smaller wineries make a far superior wine, says Alan Uchrinscko, resident wine aficionado with AVAWine.com. “We're finding our client list growing with people who truly know the difference. These people do not need to be told that boutique wines are better, but rather, where to find them with free shipping."
