Did you know that April is “Celebrate Diversity Month?”

This month, Black Houston restaurateur Marcus Davis and his establishments, as well as his popular dinner series are spotlighting BIPOC chefs and supporting Black-owned businesses.

His story of creating space for BIPOC chefs and gastro-artists and forging a path for others is an interesting story of perseverance and hope. Below are some of Marcus Davis’ worthwhile culinary destinations and experiences that truly “Celebrate Diversity:”

  • Kulture: A Black Chef Table is a culinary event series that is the mastermind of Texan restaurateur Marcus Davis.spotlighting BIPOC gastro artists to showcase their talents and illustrate their culinary perspective on a national platform. Diners will enjoy a multi-course dinner in the swanky ambience of Black-owned Kulture, located in Downtown Houston. Check out the vibes here. Please inquire for a complete list of participating chefs and food purveyors, as dates for the series have extended through November in response to the event’s positive reception by patrons.
  • The Breakfast Klub – All day breakfast anyone? The award winning restaurant is Black-owned and wildly popular, with a line every morning wrapped around the block. It is best known for favorites like Katfish n Grits and Wings n Waffles, and is currently sporting a large mural of the “Black Mount Rushmore” that recently replaced a mural honoring George Floyd. Kulture: This James Beard Nominated Black-owned restaurant is a classy, glass-enclosed restaurant and bar in downtown’s Avenida Houston and is so much more than a place to dine in comfort.
  • Kulture has been dubbed a “culinary museum” and “an urban comfort kitchen,” as the restaurant explores food, spirits, art and music through cultural contributions of the African diaspora, including Caribbean and Southern items, in a casually-elevated, yet comfortable dining atmosphere. It is also the site chosen for Black Chef Table, mentioned above.
  • Reggae Hut Kafe: A long standing staple in Houston’s Third Ward, this restaurant boasts mouth-watering authentic Caribbean food to satisfy your eclectic palate.
