Wednesday, March 28th, 2012 from 7-11pm, in celebration of Women's History Month and to commemorate the ongoing celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Freedom Rides, "Tea by Tiffany" will honor Civil Rights Freedom Rider, Dr. Lenora Taitt-Magubane at Grand Piatto d'Oro located at 1429 5th Avenue on 116th Street in Harlem.
Dr. Taitt-Magubane, has a deep history in the student non-violent protest movement that helped to fuel and carry out the principals of the civil rights movement. One of the most spectacular things this group of young people accomplished were the 'freedom rides' in which, during a perilous time, they rode interstate buses into segregated sections of the United States (1961) to test the United States Supreme Court decisions Boynton v. Virginia (1960) and Irene Morgan v. Commonwealth of Virginia (1946) that ruled segregation of interstate highways illegal.
As a means to acknowledge phenomenal women and their contributions, each month Tiffany's Tea Party will recognize an individual woman or a group of women in a variety of sectors and industries.
