In the midst of a worsening U.S. financial crisis, economist and Publisher Darrell Williams has launched The Loop 21, www.theloop21.com, an interactive website providing in-depth analysis of economics, politics, social issues and the day’s top stories from a minority perspective.
Led by Williams, the website’s publisher, and a diverse team of the nation’s top young journalists, The Loop 21 helps readers understand how global and national events – especially economic events – affect their daily lives.
“There is a need for all Americans, especially African Americans who are disproportionately affected by this crisis, to really understand how economic issues debated in the halls of Congress will play a role in their lives,” Williams says. “With the looming potential for a worsening economy and rising unemployment, we feel it is important to offer our users clear information about their finances, while also serving as a trusted resource for news and politics.”
Based in Los Angeles, CA, The Loop 21 strives to lead the debate on financial news and information for African Americans, while also serving as an interactive destination where readers can join the conversation. The site features news, commentary, blogs, polls, video, and more.
As part of its launch plans, The Loop 21 has teamed with UNITY: Journalists of Color, Inc., to conduct a national Race & The Media survey, soliciting the views of hundreds of minority journalists –Asian American, African American, Native American, and Hispanic American—regarding the impact of race on the 2008 presidential election, and its implications for 2009 and beyond.
The Race &The Media survey results will be released following a candid panel discussion featuring the country’s top journalists at the Eric Friedheim National Journalism Library National Press Club in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, February 19.
Williams, Ph.D, and publisher of theLoop21.com, is an economist with more than a decade of experience in government, business and academics.
He has worked with the President’s Council of Economic Advisors, the Office of the Chief Economist at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Economic Analysis LLC and global consulting firm LECG LLC.
As a former economics professor at UCLA, he focused on methods to help students understand and apply economics on the job and in their daily decision-making.
