Webtribes: Layoffs Become Buz Boom
WebTribes communities now rank among the top health-related Web sites for traffic.
Every year many new online businesses are created, each with their own mission of what they will offer the world. The Internet has allowed people to branch out in entrepreneurial ways like we’ve never seen before.
Take for example, WebTribes Inc., (http://www.WebTribes.com), a company that was created to help people connect with others that share common life challenges.
“Anyone that has ever started a business knows it can be intimidating,” explains Ryan FitzGerald, founder of WebTribes, Inc., an online community hub. “However, working together with my wife, pursuing something we are both passionate about has made for an excellent business partnership.”
After the Internet company Ryan was working for downsized he found himself laid off. The next day something happened that would change everything. His wife, Kristin, found out she’d be out of a job in two weeks due to a company bankruptcy. Both of them were out of work and had a baby that was four months old at the time.
This series of unfortunate events forced the couple to reevaluate. Ryan and Kristin decided to take the leap and focus, full-time on their then side job or passion project, WebTribes – a series of online support communities or ‘tribes’ – DepressionTribe.com, AnxietyTribe.com, OCDTribe.com, AddictionTribe.com, and HIVAidsTribe.com. Combining Ryan’s technology skills with Kristin’s creative and marketing skills has quickly grown to be a winning combination. WebTribes communities now rank among the top health-related Web sites for traffic.
“Sometimes opportunities find you when you least expect it,” adds Ryan. “We never would have thought that both of us losing our jobs at the same time would have turned out to be a blessing in disguise. This situation ignited our combined entrepreneurial spirit. The biggest challenge is managing a schedule with a very active 10-month old baby boy.”
