An 8-year-old boy, his father, and another man were shot last night in what appears to be a drive-by shooting.

Police responded to 178th Street near 119th Road in St. Albans around 9:40 p.m. When they arrived, they found the three victims with multiple injuries. The 8-year-old child had been shot in the shoulder, another man, believed to be the boy’s father, was shot in the leg, arm, and thigh, and the other victim was grazed in the leg by a stray bullet.

The 8-year-old and his father were taken to Jamaica Hospital in a marked police car. The other victim refused medical attention at the scene.

The shooting comes at a time when gun violence continues to see an alarming uptick in New York City.

The identities of the victims have not been released by the police, but the child and his father live in Brooklyn, according to a spokesperson for the NYPD. The third victim lives in the vicinity.

Police believe the motive may have been gang-related and the child’s father was the intended victim.

The investigation is ongoing.
