MAN DIES AFTER BEING SHOT IN QUEENS

A man died after an unknown assailant on the streets of Queens shot him.

The 54-year-old victim was identified as James Burnett, a deliveryman from Brooklyn. The shooting happened around 12:45 p.m., according to the police, on Supthin Blvd. in the South Jamaica section of Queens.

Witnesses at the scene told reporters that the victim staggered to the corner and tried to support himself against a parked car before he collapsed from his injuries.

“He stumbled onto the car,” said C. Smith, an eyewitness at the scene, who claimed he knew the victim. "His eyes were opened, but he couldn’t talk. He was gasping for air.”

Police at the scene tried to perform CPR until First Responders arrived. The victim was rushed to Jamaica Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
