Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams will join Council Member and Black, Latino and Asian Caucus Co-Chair Daneek Miller and fellow elected officials in calling on the New York State Department of Health (DOH) and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) to improve their coordination in distributing and administering COVID-19 vaccines, and prioritizing vaccinations for high-risk individuals and populations, as well as institute a system to track vaccine racial distribution data in real-time to ensure communities of color receive doses at the front-end of the process.

The event takes place today at City Hall at 2:00 PM.

The disproportionate number of Black and Brown New Yorkers that died as a result of COVID-19 could have been lessened had there been more timely reporting of racial demographic data at the onset of the pandemic.

In the midst of an alarming post-holiday surge, communities of color need prompt data disclosure on the distribution and administering of vaccines to prevent further loss of life. The group will call on the City to require racial data be collected at the time of administering the vaccine.

BP Adams and CM Miller will also announce the impending introduction of a resolution that mirrors an earlier call they made in a letter addressed to the DOH and DOHMH commissioners.
