Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance denounces Trump Administration's planned ICE raids this weekend...
"New York City is living proof that sanctuary policies make us safer. We are the safest big city in America because of – not in spite of – our thriving immigrant communities. The real threat to our public safety isn’t coming from undocumented New Yorkers – it’s coming from Washington, D.C.
“The President’s planned ‘ICE raids’ will make us less safe. They will further erode the trust and partnership built over decades between undocumented New Yorkers and law enforcement agencies like mine that proudly serve and protect them. They will make undocumented people less likely to report a violent crime against themselves or their neighbors, and less likely to testify in court to help us bring that assailant to justice. They will not deliver ‘law and order,’ but rather greater impunity for criminal perpetrators.
“Amid these unconscionable raids, I would like to remind undocumented New Yorkers that the Manhattan DA’s Office is a safe place to report crime and be connected with vital services, regardless of your immigration status or language. I also encourage undocumented New Yorkers seeking legal advice to utilize the free resources offered by our City government and public defense partners which will be available throughout the weekend.
