Is National Grid “strong-arming” New Yorkers with gas shortages (as winter nears) because their construction plans to build a new pipeline were denied?
Today, New York Attorney General Letitia James announced the launch of a new portal for New Yorkers to submit complaints about the effects of National Grid’s natural gas moratorium in New York City and Long Island.
National Grid implemented the moratorium in May 2019 in response to New York’s decision to deny the construction of a new natural gas pipeline that would have had detrimental effects on the environment and New York’s water supply. New Yorkers can file complaints at: https://ag.ny.gov/national-grid-moratorium.
The New York Attorney General’s Office is currently investigating National Grid over the moratorium and whether the company misled its customers and the New York Public Service Commission about the need for widespread service disruptions.
“National Grid denied necessary service to thousands of New Yorkers in an attempt to strong arm our state into approving a pipeline that would hurt the environment and our water supply,” said Attorney General Letitia James. “The moratorium continues to have a profound effect on individuals, small businesses, and New York’s economy, and will only get more problematic as the weather gets colder. New Yorkers harmed by National Grid’s actions deserve an explanation and I urge anyone impacted to file a complaint with my office.”
New Yorkers are encouraged to provide any information they have about the harm they have suffered and about their interactions with National Grid representatives on this matter.
