Commemoration of a Pan African Hero: Elombe Brath. Soweto Day - June 16
The founding members of the December 12th Movement will honor their comrade-in-arms, Elombe Brath on Soweto Day, Monday, June 16, 2014 @ 6:30 pm at the House of the Lord Church, 415 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn New York.
This Soweto Day is the 38th anniversary of the South African youth uprising against apartheid. Brath, a revolutionary Pan Africanist, was instrumental in introducing and educating Africans in the United States to African liberation freedom fighters on the continent. He led the delegation that brought Nelson and Winnie Mandela to Harlem in 1990.
Brath died on May 19.
In the African tradition, the movement will continue to celebrate the life of Elombe Brath, our leader, teacher, and hero. There will also be a tribute to Zimbabwe fallen national hero and Pan Africanist Cde Nathan Shamuyarira.
A special video tribute to Elombe Brath from founding President of Namibia, Sam Nujoma and Prime Minister Hage Geingob will be shown. Speaker will include, Rev. Karen Daughtry, Amina Baraka, Dr. James McIntosh, George Edward Tait, Fr Councilman Charles Barron, international representatives, December 12th Movement founders, WADU, and African Brotherhood 4 Self Determination.
