Flagler’s Journalism Excellence Award

Author, Renee Flagler, won the award for Excellence in Journalism by the New York Association of Black Journalists (NYABJ).

Freelance writer and author, Renee Daniel Flagler, won the award for Excellence in Journalism by the New York Association of Black Journalists (NYABJ). The awards were presented during the NYABJ Annual Scholarship and Awards Dinner on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Columbia University

“I am completely honored by this award. Being recognized by NYABJ in this manor is the highlight of my writing career thus far.  I love to write and that is why I do it. To receive recognition for excellence was a humbling experience and a heck of a validation for my work,” stated Renee Flagler, who has written for several print and online publications. 

Flagler received the award for an article she penned for The Network Journal Magazine about disparities within the publishing landscape as it pertains to the black book market.

The event was be hosted by WABC’s Sade Baderinwa and WCBS’ Maurice Dubois. During the annual gala, NYABJ recognizes the best in Print, New Media, Radio, Magazine and Television reporting of issues that affect the Black diaspora.  Premier journalists throughout New York City, representing all mediums attended the gala. Special Honorees for this year also included TV Legend, Roz Abrams, the late Gerald Boyd, Alphonso Van Marsh of CNN, Rosalind McLymont, Author and Editor-in-Chief of The Network Journal and Wilbert Tatum of The Amsterdam News.

Past winners include Black journalists from some of the nation’s most premier publications such as Black Enterprise and Newsweek as well as major radio and TV broadcast companies.

About Renee Flagler
Renee Daniel Flagler is an award winning journalist and the author of ‘Miss-Guided,’ ‘Mountain High, Valley Low,’ and the forthcoming ‘In Her Mind’ (Spring 2008), the highly anticipated sequel to ‘Mountain High, Valley Low.’ As a freelance writer and marketing professional, her writing has been featured in business and consumer newsletters and magazines, nationwide.
