Congresswoman Nydia M. Velázquez: over $19 million to be delivered to New York City community health centers.

Community health centers in New York City are receiving an influx of resources from the CARES Act, legislation recently enacted by the U.S. Congress to help address the coronavirus pandemic.

Rep. Velázquez announced funding for eleven community health centers that are located in or serve New York’s 7th Congressional District.

“These centers are the backbone of our neighborhood healthcare system, providing culturally appropriate medical care to underserved populations, regardless of ability to pay,” Velázquez noted. “From hospitals to primary care settings, the COVID-19 pandemic has strained medical systems everywhere, but nowhere more so than here in New York. These badly needed resources will help local community health centers that are on the frontline of this crisis continue providing quality care to New Yorkers.”

Health centers serving or located in New York’s 7th Congressional District receiving funding under the CARES Act are as follows:

• Betances Health Center, New York, NY – $602,285

• Community Healthcare Network, Inc., New York, NY – $1,618,535

• Charles B. Wang Community Health Center, Inc., New York, NY – $1,669,415

• Healthcare Choices NY, Inc., Brooklyn, NY – $568,145

• Housing Works Health Services, III, Inc., Brooklyn, NY – $642,365

• Institute for Family, New York, NY – $2,678,645 • Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center, Inc. (Including Red Hook), – $1,218,830

• New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, New York, NY – $4,147,220

• ODA Primary Health Care Center, Inc., Brooklyn, NY – $1,455,995

• Sunset Park Health Council, Inc., Brooklyn, NY – $3,448,744

• Brooklyn, Manhattan & Queens Chairwoman, House Small Business Committee News from Congresswoman

• William F. Ryan Community Health Center, Inc. (Including NENA in LES), New York, NY – $1,385,900

The CARES Act was signed into law on March 27. The funding awards can be used by the health centers to help communities detect coronavirus; prevent, diagnose, and treat COVID-19; and maintain or increase health capacity and staffing levels to address the ongoing public health emergency.

As Congress looks toward future legislation in response to the virus, I’ll be fighting so local community health centers and hospitals in New York City secure federal resources they need,” Velázquez added.
