New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer

Stringer released the following statement today on the anniversary of the death of Eric Garner at the hands of NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo.

The death of Eric Garner has given new urgency to a dialogue that involves all New Yorkers, and, indeed, all Americans.

At the end of the day, it is up to each and every one of us to ensure that Eric’s death was not in vain: we must find ways to march forward together as we demand a just and equitable society that recognizes and respects the rights of every citizen.

We must implement policies that bring the police and the communities they serve closer together, expand community policing initiatives, outfit more of our police officers with body cameras, and give our officers the tools and the equipment they need to be safe.

And in everything we do we must be crystal clear: all lives matter.
