On, Thursday, July 23rd, Council Member Inez Barron, Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and other Council Members will honor Misty Copeland with a proclamation.

Council Member Barron states, “We are excited to honor Misty Copeland who has been named the Principal Dancer of the American Ballet Theatre,” Council Member Barron said.

“This elevation makes her the first African American woman in the company’s 75-year history to reach its top rank. Her hard work to hone her talents has earned her this distinction. She has said that she hopes to be a role model for others, especially little brown girls. I am pleased to present Misty Copeland with this proclamation on behalf of the Council of the City of NY.”
