Today, Brooklyn Assemblymembers Nick Perry and Diana Richardson along with a group of Brooklyn faith leaders endorsed Comptroller Scott Stringer for Mayor of New York.

They announced the formation of a “Brooklyn for Stringer” coalition, together with State Senators Julia Salazar and Brian Kavanagh, Assemblymembers Robert Carroll and Maritza Davila and Congressmember Jerry Nadler, that will organize voters throughout the borough. The announcement comes on the heels of major endorsements Stringer has earned from labor and progressive leaders, and adds to his campaign’s momentum.

Assemblymember Nick Perry said: “We know Scott Stringer. We know his character and his commitment to our communities. New York City is a one-of-a-kind town, and we need a one-of-a-kind leader to be our next Mayor. He’s been borough president, and what better place than Borough Hall to gain the experience to learn about city government, and where else can you get the key training to be a good mayor, understanding budgeting and spending, than the office of City Comptroller.

“Look at all the names that have been thrown into the mayoral race, and the candidate superbly ready and equipped to take on the job of mayor, on day one, is unquestionably Scott Stringer. He knows we need real criminal justice reform, and he’ll make that happen. With Scott Stringer as Mayor, every New Yorker will be treated equally under our laws. With an unquestionable knowledge of our city budget, he’s ready to lead the equitable recovery New York City needs after the COVID-19 pandemic.

“With our economy hurting and businesses struggling, Comptroller Stringer’s 25-point plan to Save Main Street stores is the comprehensive vision we need to bring back jobs and commercial life. They say Brooklyn picks mayors, and I’m proud to be part of a strong Brooklyn coalition that’s ready to fight to send Scott Stringer to City Hall.”

Assemblymember Diana Richardson said: “New York City needs a mayor who leads by example and walks the walk. Scott Stringer doesn’t just talk about affordable housing, he fights for it and delivers. He doesn’t just tweet about criminal justice issues, he’s divested our pension dollars from the private prisons that fuel mass incarceration. He doesn’t just theorize about the suffering COVID has wrought, he’s lived it, and he has a plan to build New York back stronger. That’s the tenacity Comptroller Stringer will bring to City Hall — and he’s the fighter New Yorkers need standing up for them. With enthusiasm, I endorse Scott Stringer for mayor.”

New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer said: “Assemblymembers Nick Perry and Diana Richardson are champions in Albany for Brooklyn’s working families. They’ve fought tirelessly to advance progressive solutions in the Legislature, leading the charge for real affordable housing, meaningful criminal justice reform, and an economy that lifts up all New Yorkers. And they were on the frontlines in the fight for rent reform and they didn’t back down in the face of wealthy interests. Nick Perry and Diana Richardson aren’t afraid of the tough fights – and I’m grateful to have them in our corner to build a city for everyone.”

Bishop Orlando FIndlayter said: “Our communities deserve a leader at City Hall they can count on–someone who’s been tested and has delivered. That’s exactly why Scott Stringer is the clear choice to be our next mayor. He has consistently fought for affordable housing that’s actually affordable and, at every turn, he’s been a champion for our most vulnerable workers. Scott leans into the tough fights and stands up for what’s right. Brooklyn needs Scott Stringer at City Hall.”

Reverend Kirkpatrick Cohall said: “Comptroller Stringer is no stranger to our communities – and he’ll be a mayor all New Yorkers can trust. This City needs a common sense approach to economic recovery and strategic investments in our neighborhoods and young people that unleash their potential. Comptroller Stringer’s experience in government gives him the perspective, vision, and skills to manage effectively and produce results. We don’t just need a progressive government, but a progressive government that delivers. That’s why we need Scott Stringer as our next Mayor.”

New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer said: “These faith leaders are giants in their communities because they’re on the ground, serving the people, and advancing the cause of fairness. At a time like this, our houses of worship – and those who lead them – are indispensable to meeting the needs of the people. I’m thrilled to have their support in this campaign and to partner with them to build a city for everyone.”

Congressmember Jerry Nadler said: “Scott Stringer is a longtime champion for New York City – from his days as a young reformer in the Assembly to his bold leadership as Manhattan Borough President to his groundbreaking work as Comptroller – he has always been there for us. From the moment I first met Scott, he’s never been afraid to take on the status quo and rewrite the rules – literally – to give New Yorkers the representation they deserve. I know that Scott is a man of integrity, he’s a New Yorker to his core, and he will bring real progressive change as Mayor. I’m proud to endorse him, and I urge my neighbors across the city to send Scott Stringer to City Hall.”

Senator Brian Kavanagh said: “New York’s next Mayor is going to face an economic crisis unlike any in a generation. Scott Stringer is uniquely up to the challenge, and he understands how important small businesses are to creating jobs and rebuilding a strong, diverse economy once we’re past this horrible pandemic. Scott also knows how important small businesses are to the life of our neighborhoods and to what makes them special. That’s one of the many reasons I’m proud to endorse Scott Stringer for Mayor.”

Sen. Julia Salazar said: “I want a Mayor who isn’t afraid of the activists and organizers out there in the streets every day, week after week, demanding change. I want a Mayor who embraces them and understands how important those voices are in building a city for all of us. That’s what Scott Stringer will be because that’s who he’s always been. I’m proud to join so many progressive leaders and activists across the city in endorsing Scott Stringer for Mayor.”

Assemblymember Robert Carroll said: “Scott Stringer has everything we need in our next Mayor: a progressive record and commitment to reform, the vision to build a city that works for everyone, and the experience to get us through some tough times ahead. Scott has something else that comes from being a lifelong New Yorker—a real appreciation for our neighborhoods, what gives each of them their own vibe and makes each one of them special. I’m proud to endorse Scott for Mayor.”

Assemblymember Maritza Davila said: “I’m so proud to endorse Comptroller Scott Stringer for Mayor of New York City. I have known Scott for over 10 years and have seen the hard work and dedication he brings to his job in public service. With Scott as mayor, I know he will work to implement his bold plan to expand quality child care, provide early education, and support all of our babies. And I’m certain he will bring his passion for this City to Gracie Mansion and work tirelessly to lead New York out of crisis.”
