A Plea to Help John White

Every person of African ancestry –Latinos included– must send a postcard to Gov. Paterson saying "Free John White", Pardon John White" or words to that effect. This message should be communicated on every Black radio program in addition to family, friends, neighbors and co-workers.

[I Write What I like]

For the past 20 years, no Black grassroots organization in the United States has spent more time and resources in securing a political voice for persons of African ancestry.  So far, the Freedom Party is the only Black-led party that has ever secured a place on the ballot in the United States.

The United Africa Movement is still bent on securing a true vote count in the 2010 gubernatorial sweepstakes despite wolves in sheep’s clothing. This is a stolen election when 195,000 votes were missing and no explanation has been given for the undercount. If the integrity of the electoral process is not restored, no reason exists for a sane person to vote in any election. One suspect is the NYPD.

The illegal conviction and incarceration of John White was a significant motivating factor in putting the Freedom Party back on track. All Black elected officials in New York City are powerless. I contacted 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care and “Community Cop” for support.  It was decided that Michael Greys would be the gubernatorial candidate. We were off to the races. We were comfortable with Greys as a gubernatorial candidate.

Since Black males were first permitted to vote as a class in the United States, no attempt has ever been made for Blacks to secure a political voice. Unfortunately, Blacks have always been comfortable with a political presence instead of political power. For example, Gov. David Paterson has a political presence but no political voice in New York politics.

The U.S. Constitution makes no mention of a political party. George Washington was not a member of any political party.  He was simply viewed as the commander-in-chief.  It did not take a long time for the “founding fathers” to acknowledge that a republican form of government required its constituents to have a political voice through political associations.

In 140 years since the ratification of the Fifteenth Amendment, Blacks have still been unable to reach this conclusion. The only frame of reference that Blacks have in the United States is the plantation. Thus, Blacks are comfortable with plantation politics. White political parties select our representatives and we elect them. Their allegiance is to those who selected them.

Once it is determined that the Freedom Party secured 50,000 votes in 2010, our political fortunes will improve. The Democratic Party in New York is in trouble. The Tea Party financed Andrew Cuomo’s gubernatorial campaign and it chose not to be on the ballot in New York. Only the Democratic Party in New York lost six congressional seats to Republicans in 2010.

This is a bad time for the spirit of Harriet Tubman to visit the plantation. The Democratic Party is employing the Fugitive Slave Law to keep Blacks and Latinos engaged in plantation politics. The Democratic Party is a member of the Fortune 500 because Blacks and Latinos refuse to demand a quid pro quo.

Thus, Blacks and Latinos are thoroughly powerless.  Even when an obvious and odious injustice has been visited on a person of African ancestry, we lack the political power to correct it even though the Democratic Party depends on our charity for its continued existence.

Blacks make no threats. Gov. David Paterson is comfortable keeping John White behind bars for violating the state’s slave code. There must be consequences. One consequence is to hold your dollars and bring NYC to its financial knees.  No Black elected official will touch this obvious remedy with a ten-foot pole.

Every person of African ancestry –Latinos included– must send a postcard to Gov. Paterson saying “Free John White”, Pardon John White” or words to that effect. This message should be communicated on every Black radio program in addition to family, friends, neighbors and co-workers.

Gov. Paterson’s tenure will end soon as a lame-duck governor. Time is of the essence. Ultimately, John White’s fate is in our hands.  We must step away from rigged elections and white merchants.  The Democratic Party should be warned that it is not healthy for it to continue to take Blacks for granted.

The contact information and the mailing address for the postcard is as follows:

Gov. David Paterson
State Capitol
Albany, NY 12224
518-474-8390
www.state.ny.us

It is important to mail a postcard with a message to the governor.  Urge others to do likewise.  The postcard will be handled by scores of persons en route to Gov. David Paterson.  This must be a grassroots movement effort.  By Monday, at least 10,000 postcards should have been sent.  If whites can still pay homage to John Lennon, we should at least be able to decry an injustice.
