Barack Obama Crushes Hillary Clinton
Obama withstood vicious attack advertisements from the Clinton campaign, including race-baiting. The New York senator’s attempt to inflame race fears amongst Whites by stoking the Reverend Jeremiah Wright incident seems to have backfired. Voters ignored the race-mongering to help Obama crush Clinton.
[Elections 2008: North Carolina And Indiana]
Senator Barack Obama crushed Senator Hillary Clinton in spectacular fashion tonight with a 13-point win in North Carolina, 56% to 42%, where 115 delegates were at stake.
Clinton slipped by with Indiana, with two points, 51% to 49%.
The Democratic Party rules allocate delegates proportionately, meaning it was a good night for Obama. The candidates will split the delegates in Indiana, while Obama will take more delegates from North Carolina.
Clinton, in her remarks tonight gave hints that she may be preparing to quit the race soon.
“No mater what happens, I will work for the nominee of the party,” Senator Clinton said, perhaps preparing her supporters for her eventual withdrawal from the race. She added that change means ousting Republicans from the White House.
Even though Clinton did say she will continue in the states that have not yet voted, the tone of her remarks was somber.
“The Democratic Party is your party; and the Democratic Party is good for you,” Clinton said, focusing more on selling the party’s fortunes rather than her own candidacy.
Standing in the rear, her daughter Chelsea appeared stunned as did her red-faced husband, Bill.
There are 72 delegates at stake in Indiana.
Clinton in her remarks also said the votes in Florida and Michigan needed to be counted; the Democratic National Committee (DNC) ruled that delegates from those states would not be counted because both violated the party’s voting rules by moving up their election dates.
Obama withstood vicious attack advertisements from the Clinton campaign, including race-baiting tactics. The New York senator’s attempt to inflame race fears amongst Whites by stoking the Reverend Jeremiah Wright incident seems to have backfired.
"Tonight we stand less than 200 delegates away from winning the Democratic nomination for president of the United States," Obama said, addressing an enthusiastic crowd tonight.
Voters shunned Clinton's race-mongering to help Obama crush the New York senator. In recent days Clinton had been touting a plan to give back 16 cents per gallon to voters with a suspension of gas taxes. Many voters dismissed the Clinton proposal as a gimmick.
Clinton did congratulate Obama on his huge victory in North Carolina.
Clinton begged supporters to go to her website and contribute. Contributions to the New York senator’s campaign increased after she won Pennsylvania by nine-points.
Donations will slow significantly after Obama’s huge North Carolina victory. Should the Illinois senator snatch both states, Clinton’s money flow will likely dry up, making it impossible for her to compete with Senator Obama’s $40 million war chest.
Clinton has boasted in the past that she has done well despite being outspent 3 to 1 by Obama; she fails to mention that Obama outspends her 3 to 1 because the money in his campaign coffers exceeds hers by a 4 to 1 margin.

It was sexy to be against the war back then. He was probably in it to get laid.
