How perverse and also apt that the U.S. is considering allowing Yemen’s dictator of 34 years Field Marshal Ali Abdullah Saleh into the country for medical treatment.
This is the same Saleh who has caused the deaths of several hundreds of Yemeni civilians in the last few months as he resisted a popular uprising; a revolt which, moreover, wasn’t sparked by a deranged French “philosopher” and executed by the U.S. and NATO.
We’ve yet to read a single critical editorial from “the paper of record” which was the prime media cheerleader for the war of aggression on Libya, penning numerous comments urging NATO to escalate the bombardment of Libya. The great newspaper has suddenly gone mute as soon as criminal militias took control of Libya, which now has no effective government but no shortage of shoulder launched anti-aircraft missiles unaccounted for.
“Marshal” Saleh, a man with the blood of Yemeni civilians in his hands will be allowed to travel to the U.S. and then presumably depart to a destination of his choosing.
“Marshal” Saleh, who surely deserves a private audience at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague, instead, will be a guest of the U.S. government. This is because the ICC is reserved for selective prosecution. The “court” imposes a unique form of judicial apartheid. It only prosecutes rulers whom the United States, the U.K. and France designate as “rogues” or “enemies.”
ICC prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo carries out his corrupted and contemptible abuse of international law faithfully. He departs in June; not a day too soon. Look for his successor to continue the abomination.
So, for committing the same crimes as those alleged to have been committed by Gen. Saleh, Syria’s President Bashar al Assad surely will end up at the Hague once he is forced from power. He will not get a Visa from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to enter the U.S. because, unlike Saleh, he has been designated a “rogue.”
At the same time, Hosni Mubarak, laying on a gurney as he’s being tried in Egypt for deaths in connection to the uprising which ended his regime must be in a state of confused delirium. For three decades he was faithful to Washington and observed the Camp David agreement. He was even accused of betraying the Palestinian cause in order to maintain peace.
Yet look where he is today while dictator Saleh may soon be on a flight to the United States.
Hypocrisy reigns supreme. Welcome to reality Hosni.
Let this also be a lesson to the naive folks who for a minute bought that nonsense that the Libyan intervention was about “saving” civilian lives and ushering democracy.
