FOTC is calling on the US government to cease its financing and training of the Rwandan military that is sponsoring rebels, including those who are wanted for crimes against humanity in the Congo.

[Protest/Demonstration]

The purpose of the demonstration is to protest Rwanda's training and arming of rebel groups inside the Congo as exposed by The United Nations.

A United Nations Group of Experts report has documented the Rwandan government's support for rebels inside the Congo. Various media have reported that the United States Mission to the United Nations, headed by Ambassador Susan Rice had first attempted to block the report and after pressure subsequently agreed to allow the publishing of the Group of Experts report.

Since April, 200,000 people have been displaced in the eastern region of the Congo due to the rebel violence, increasing the total number of internally displaced Congolese to 2 million, says the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR). Friends of the Congo (FOTC) is calling on the Rwandan government to cease arming and training of rebels in the Congo.

In addition, FOTC is calling on the US government to cease its financing and training of the Rwandan military that is sponsoring rebels, including those who are wanted for crimes against humanity in the Congo. Please v
